With the NHL season now underway and each team playing at least one game, here are my predictions for the 2008 playoffs and other tidbits.
Teams making the playoffs in the East:
In no particular order, Ottawa, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, Pittsburgh, Tamba Bay, Atlanta, New Jersey and Buffalo. Question marks on the last three though. Buffalo and Atlanta have to work for it and Jersey's going nowhere if Brodeur can't pull his game together or the rest of the team can't back him up with some scoring.
Teams making the playoffs in the West:
In no particular order, Nashville, Detroit, Anaheim, San Jose, Colorado, Vancouver, Minnesota and Dallas. As with Jersey, Dallas needs Modano to score and Turco to be a wall to make it. Vancouver's also a few years away from a solid team. They'll be riding Luongo all season.
Teams that may surprise:
Washington, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Calgary and Toronto (though if the Leafs make it in, it'll be on Toskala's effort).
