Well after years of trying to find a group to play the proper, table-top game with, I've finally given up. It seems I can only now get my RPG fix by playing PC games.

The only one I've played so far is Warriors of the Eternal Sun on the Sega Mega Drive (what you colonials called the Sega Genesis) a decade or more ago. I'm just getting into playing the original Baldur's Gate now, after digging it out of a chest. (I had to disarm a poison dart trap on the bastard first!)

Has anyone else played this game? There seem to be so many titles in the series, that I'm totally confused. Are they all expansion packs or something? Anyone know?

i guess im a nerd when it comes to RPGs/Online RPGs Jim man, i could list some games that you really should play if youre interested 😉

Go for it! The RPG games will do to refresh my memory for a bit.🙂

I don't understand a word you just said, but it sounds good! 😀

I am indeed a fan of the party-forming, experience building sort of game. I do at this moment in time have a real preference for D&D stuff. Just started playing Baldur's Gate a couple of hours ago. My protagonist is a human male paladin, going by the incredibly original name of Aragorn. Crap eh? 😀

Hardly do I start playing than my adoptive father gets murdered and I'm dropped in the shit, not even being allowed home. :cry1: Oddly enough it all seems to be happening because some bunch of smeggers want me dead. What gives, I'm only 20 smarseing years old and I've never even been outside of Candlekeep before!

Oh, how I miss the REAL D&D...All the way up to the Unearthed Arcana. After that, things started to suck.

We're on Edition 3.5 now geezer, although I only have the 3rd Edition core rulebooks. I would far sooner play a proper game around a table, but PC games will have to suffice for now. Baldur's Gate is a 2nd Edition era game. Quite shocked at the language in it actually. I got called a "murdering bastard" and was told by an inkeeper that his establishment was as "clean as an elven arse". oo-er.

I loved baldurs gate Jim, great game. To do every little quest it qwill keep you busy for monthes.

I did indeed, hippy! 😀

I got interested in D&D tabletop gaming in about 2000 after I got talking to a New Yorker who got friendly with me after talking to me on my first message board at the Inc. Hulk TV series website. He talked about it a bit and I went out and bought the Core Rulebooks. Now I gotta go and get another bloody set. Is there some character generation software for D&D characters? I got some with my Players Manual four years or more ago, but it was only a trial version, with not all the features. I'd love the 3.5 full version. I suppose I'll have to get the new rulebooks too now.

I know the creators of D&D deny it, but there is no doubt that Tolkein's work heavily influenced this stuff. The only substantial difference is the height of elves, who go from being as tall as and taller than humans, down to about 5'5" for an elven basketball player. (And the nature of halflings of course, who appear shod and without their own communtities; preferring instead to fitting in around other peoples. In the BG manual their homes are even described as "holes"!) In the manual for Baldur's Gate halflings are described as having "hairy feet" which is not something I've ever read in any other D&D material. Halflings are always depicted as shod in everything else.

Is there some arseing great fire demon down at the bottom of those crappy iron mines?

Yanno, I have a hankering to create my own world for D&D. Well actually I want to play it in Middle Earth, which is Tolkein's world not mine, but you get the picture.

I think just after the War of the Ring would be a good time. King Ellessar has been on the throne for 5-10 years and the forces of good are trying to put order into the chaotic world. Sauron's annihilation removed the "ordered" threat to the world, but according to the Return of the King appendices it takes a couple of decades to turn everything completely around. since Aragorn lives till he's nearly 210, this ain't a great problem for him. lol

The elves continued to leave Middle Earth for Valinor right through Aragorn's reign, with Legolas being the last to go in his old age (elves discovering the delights of being geriatric after their 3 rings lost their power), building a final ship himself at the Havens and taking Gimli into the West with him. Sam himself left a few years before just after the death of Rosie, his wife. He wasn't an elf, but he had been a Ring-bearer, and so was accorded the honour.
