There are two things you need to know about this movie:
1) It sucked just as bad the first time it was released, back when it was called "Flashdance" and even worse in it's second incarnation as "Glitter".
2) Jessica Alba spends most of the movie sweaty and half-naked.
The former kills this movie from the word "Go." The acting is horrible and serves as nothing more than giving a few extra minutes of fame to the gangstas of the moment, not to mention having us believe that hip-hop dancing is as vital to this country as defense spending.
The second makes it worth shelling out a few bucks on a rental and wasting two hours. This is strictly my opinion and comes from deep within the male-pig part of my psyche. Jessica Alba is quite simply the hottest and most beautiful creation God ever made. When He was finished with her, He sat back and had a smoke, I'm sure of it.
The plot is lame and has been done at least ten times in the last decade...probably trying to be this year's interminable re-creation of "Crush Groove".
But, Jessica Alba is sweaty and half-naked throughout most of the movie.
Even the "love scenes" fall flat as there is absolutely no emotion between the actors. Missy Elliot comes across as no specific character, but as Missy Elliot trying to pimp her "career" even further.
Have I mentioned that Jessica Alba is half-naked in this?
Being just another attempt to cash in on gangsta culture and American Idol Inc. I would strongly suggest walking the other way if you see this movie for rent.
But since Jessica Alba spends most of this movie bumping and grinding, getting all sweaty and being half-naked...
...I give it 5 Stars. 😀
