He's your godson, and an important person in your life. If this were me, just meet with him, anywhere, and talk. Try to put all the feelings on both sides, from both your viewpoint, and his, on the table, and air out what you both are thinking. Sometimes, if two people have a history of a caring relationship over time, an open and honest airing can help iron things out.
I do agree with the other posters. A bar is a bad place. Maybe try to go to a place like a diner, that has food, but no drink. Try to make it at a quiet time, if possible, like not during a height of lunch hour, where you can just sit and talk quietly. I've done this with my father on several occasions after long estrangments, and it worked for me.
I hope this advice helped. Good Luck to you and your godson. I hope you both can rekindle what you once had.
