E-mail notifications everywhere!

Even though I have 'Use e-mail notification by default' in the User CP set to "no", I still receive e-mail notifications whenever someone replies to the threads.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way to disable it?
 
Depends on when you set that function to "no". If you made some threads, then selected the e-mail notification to "no", it still will send you e-mails whenever someone replies to a thread you created before that. The best way to disable then is to go into your User CP and unsubscribe from the thread manually.
