It's sad, but as previously noted, overdue. The Trek franchise has been sagging steadily over the years, and admittedly, this last incarnation is less than adequate. Bakula is a fine actor, but hardly Starship Captain material. The rest of the crew are mediocre at best, none of the characters actually captivating my interest (With the exception of Hoshi, and that's just because she's so fine to look at). I enjoyed the increased presence of the races that first comprised the "Federation of Planets," and the many references to the first series that I grew up with. I think the extended encounter with the Xindi was the highlight of the series.
I had a difficult time accepting the Next Generation, and didn't follow it the first few seasons. Oddly enough, my favorites of the TV series were Voyager and Deep Space 9. My favorite character among the Treks was the Doctor of Voyager, played "impeccably" by Robert Picardo, who near the beginning of his acting career was on his way to being Jim Carrey before Jim Carrey. Watch the movie "Explorers," with the late River Phoenix, in which Mr. Picardo has numerous separate roles.
A close second to the Doctor would be the brooding Captain Sisko, who hated his assignment at first, then finally giving his existance to it.
