i hear a report on the radio today, kida scarry.
seems "a german military chief" (that's what they said, no names given)"is calling for the E.U. to confiscate all of britians neuclear weapons, by force of arms if neccesary".

gee, once again a german wants to invade england. why, the weather sucks there!

one things for sure, we will not need to come begging to uncle sam this time around!....the germans recently mounted a joint exercise with the French, but cancelled it becuause it was raining!!!.....I dont recall rain stopping the third reich.

People have been trying to get in here for centuries, and some of the best in the business have failed, you have to go back to one Mr W. Conquerer to find an example of an away win against the British!

So I am not unduly concerned about what the Germans say on such matters, I am more concerned with trying to compete with the Germans economically and financially. In that regard they rightly dominate Europe.

I do not believe that Germany, for all it's fine qualities, or even that bastion of free thinking we know as France, would be able to pick up the slack and conquer the musical empire that the mighty island has laid claim to, lo these many decades! Well, I personally don't want the UK to surrender to Europe. Besides, we've got enough resources and finances for ourselves. That said, we shouldn't sever ties with Europe because we don't want to join them. Mind you, we may need some efficient German engineering to sort out the mess that is our tube and train system...

I'm not terribly sure about our music though. It's all a bunch of manufactured crap at the moment. Just like in the USA. Oh, and the weather sure didn't suck this summer either...

Deutschland, the US's Music, and Brittania

Whoa there Chimpy! There is plenty of great music in America that isn't manufactured. The cheap, easy-to-market, bubble gum, teeny bopper shit that is Pop music is manufactured and it sucks, but there are great musicians out there, like Dave Matthews who is still getting better- (and he writes his own music!). I don't know anything about the UK as far as music goes, but I do know that Englanders are bad asses who will never be conquered, because of their awesome attitude and hardiness. As far as Deutschland is concerned, they won't fight anyone, but if they do, it will take A LOT to stop them. Germans are also an awesome people with an outstanding work ethic, and a determination that just won't quit. If I wasn't an American, I would be a German. Deutschland Über Alles!!

Thank God, no "military chief" (there's no such title in Germany, so the source is rather doubtful) can order a nation to go to war anymore. I'd be much more worrying about such BS if it came out of a politician's mouth (again, regardless of nationality)! 🙄

you're right hal, there is no rank in the german armed forces as "military chief". i took it to be like a chief of staff, or a service branch chief. you're also right, that it sounds like an idiot. i posted about it cause this is the first i'd heard about it, and wondered if others had any knowledge of it.

.....mmmm, well not lately I fear, not on the pop music side anyway. All we get now is hyped up, bio degradeable, talentless fucks. Very depressing. We do of course have lots of world beating musicians, but not in the "pop" genre, English church music is THE best, take a listen to Kings Colledge, a thriving vibrant entity performing works by contemporary composers. One of the great sounds in world music in my opinion. Also the Brass movement is another great British institution producing some wonderfull music, both traditional and cutting edge, have a listen to Black Dyke or Fairies.

Personally, I have always looked to the states for my music, as I am a jazz musician. Looking forward to coming stateside soon to visit the birth place of jazz.

I just love Britney and Beyonce......as long as the T.V. volume is on "mute"

I'm not sure any European nation is capable of invading another across water these days.

Besides the continental European nations can't get along with each other. Do you REALLY expect France and Germany to trust each other?

I find that information very amusing. But such preemptive strikes appear to be the norm recently. Here is another intersting bit of information i heard a few months ago around the time the war in Iraq started. The Russians the French and the Germans are wroking on a military alliance to counter the weight and influence that the U.S. has in the World. A reaction to the United States disregard of U.N. opinion in the matter of Iraq. Anyone else hear this?

NO legal obligation to follow the UN in matters that we determine to be in OUR best interests.
So far as a German, French, Russian alliance LOL. You have two essentially bankrupt countries, and one that surrenders when the enemy sneezes. The French don't trust the Germans and visa versa, and the Germans and Russians have a dEEP national hatred for each other that has something to do with 30,000,000 Russians dying at German hands in this century.

In any event, might as well just pick any three 3rd world countries and substitute them for the above three. Strengthwise it carries the same significance...

Sad thing is, 2 of those countries are more irate that their secret dealings with Iraq are being disclosed, and I honestly think Germany is just sick of war.

i have looked at more news papers, than usual, and watched the news channels. i have neither seen, nor heard anything further about this issue. i guess no one else in the world took it seriously. pitty, cause to me, this was a hot button.

Oddly enough Darth, I was thinking of the Trident naval submarines when I thought of using that phrase. We may only have a dozen of them (too many of which always seem to being re-fitted than patrolling the world's oceans) but they don't half give you some welly, don't they?
