Everyone read this

I have a rather stupid question:

How do people smart enough to leave their ad-blocker on, and not to read e-mails from people they don't know - get hit by this kind of thing?

Not to mention with anti-virus and anti-spyware software. I think the people stupid enough to get hit hard are the ones who don't know where to find information about it in the first place. lol

Unfortunately, TT states in the "Terms and Conditions" box on the homepage that time refunds can not be given.

Sorry. 😛

Remind me never to let you in on any of my jokes, you

Somehow I thought your jokes would be better masked, and not revealed at a glance :stickout

After all, you are the Evil Mastermind of All That Is Snuggly

As MissyVal said - it's a real threat.

It's better to be made a light fool rather than becoming compromised and be made the bigger fool.

Microsoft doesn't have a sense a humor, let alone one poking fun at its OS insecurities. That's not good for business...

Hmm... I let my auto-updates, windows defender and Avast take care of things for me. Also, I don't open unknown mail, click on strange links or other risky stuff, so I believe I'll be safe.

Do that as well, people, and no worm will infest you.

Thanks for the heads-up, then Queen. By the date, I thought someone was pulling a prank.

april first is still a week away silly Duke..

Well I would reconsider and think about it a little more before brushing it off. But hey, it's your compy. 🙂

Luckily, even if you don't believe it, if you're up-to-date with your Windows Update you should be fine. :cool

Windas Update is yer friend buds.

Conflicker/Downandup targets a very old attack vector, but it's one that it seems a lot of boxes didn't get updated with. Downandup I don't believe has lept platforms, that is, it's not off of Windows.

But, it's capable of targeting x86 and x64 boxes, though apparently not Intel Itanium workstations and servers. It appears that the 5.x releases of Windows (2000, XP, Server 2003, WinFLP) are the hardest hit.

If you wanna be extra paranoid, open the "Services" applet in Windows Administrative Tools from the Control Panel, scroll down and set the Server service to disabled and reboot. That's the service that's targeted it seems.

Also, DNS, the core software that drives the intarwebs has been putzed with, from what I read at El Reg, to help slow this shit down.
