Just in off the wire...The Atlanta Falcons have acquired TE Tony Gonzales from the Kansas City Chiefs for....you ready for this? A 2nd round draft pick in 2010!

Wow! I think the Falcs have possibly made the deal of the decade here. What do y'all think?

Flat out theft.

I don't understand the Chiefs. I thought getting Matt Cassel was a way to win now, without a long rebuilding process, and keep the veterans like LJ and Gonzalez happy. I can't see why they'd drop such a valuable offensive weapon.

Great move for the Falcons. Matt Ryan will be better next year because of this move. Add a Pro Bowl TE to one of the best running teams in the NFC, and good things could definitely happen. Big ups to the Falcons for getting this deal done.

Just for the record though, I still think the Cutler deal will pay off the most in the end. Gonzalez is a huge pickup, but only for a year or two, three at the most. Cutler is turning into an elite QB, and he's right in the prime of his career. I'd take him any day of the week.

It's sad to see him go, but I have feeling the new regime in KC has some more tricks up their sleeve. Tony is also in his mid 30's.

This supports new GM Scott Pioli's philosophy: players go to Pro Bowls, but teams win championships. The man has helped in NE's three Super Bowl titles. He knows what he's doing.

This is nothing compared to trading off Jared Allen, a first-rate linebacker to the Vikings. That was one of Carl Peterson's final mistakes before being run by Clark Hunt.

It's hard to say whether the Chiefs will improve this year, but it will be a significant improvement over King Carl's 20-year 5-year plan.

I think this trade is a precursor to the Chiefs moving the 3rd pick, so the additional 2nd rounder next year is good value. This draft isn't very flashy nor does it have clear cut standout guys. Pioli always has a plan and I don't think he would make such a deal without something else in the works.

While I like the addition of Tony to that offense, it doesn't do anything to upgrade that defense. They lost what 5 starters and now are counting on rookies to fill spots. If Atlanta isn't careful, they will fall into the same trap that has plagued Denver for a couple of years all flash on offense and no sizzle on defense.

This deal makes their offense explosive, now all they need to do is add to the defense a little, and a Super Bowl run is theirs for the taking

a 2nd rounder was about right. Tony Gonzalez is a future hall-of-famer but he is is going to be 33 going into the season and I just don't know how many probowl seasons he has left. I'll admit that he is probably the most complete tightend in football at the moment, but you don't give up a #1 pick for a Tight End who is entering his mid 30s. I love Gonzalez and I'm sure he will have a couple of productive years in ATL but this was a good move for both teams. The Cheifs didn't want him anymore because they are in a movement to get younger and he didn't want to be there because he knew the direction they were taking. To me it sounds like everyone got what they wanted because Kansas City got more draft picks to get younger and Tony will get to play for a team that, at the moment, appears to be the most complete team in the NFC South (which hurts me to say as a Panther fan).
