i have been attending the Mets home opener at Shea Stadium since 1981. Our group has been getting 100 tickets every year for over 20 years. We always had a HUGE tailgate party in the parking lot (2 kegs of beer..five 6 foot heroes) A few years ago the police started to "crack down" on this activity..I don't know why because I have never seen a problem in all the years we have gone. So we reluctantly complied and stopped tailgating.(insert foot in fans butt) This year when we ordered the tickets we were told that we couldn't get 100 tickets because the Mets were including Opening Day in their ^pack season ticket plan..(insert foot in fans butt...again) I took that entire week off so I knew I would be off THAT DAY. Opening day has become more than just a game to us...it's when we see friends that we don't see much and to me it has always been more like a holiday than just a game. I have been a lifelong and loyal Mets fan. I was at their 7th home game at the Polo Grounds in 1962 when I was a youngster and now I feel betrayed. No Opening Day...No Hockey
The sports world had better get it's act together. It's always the fan that suffers and This one really hurt!! 🙁
I just had to get that off my chest b0xr

Hey man, these franchises will soon learn that they don't have a damn thing to sell if the fan isn't there.
Football strike ?
Baseball strike?
Hockey strike?

fugum all.

Careful With That Beer!

This is a different spin on it but I went to see Iron Maiden at MSG in 2003 and they sold beer. Motorhead and Dio played with them(much to my delight!)and people were buying beer like it was water. By the time Maiden came on everyone was drunk. There was no fights but the fans were acting rowdy enough to make a non-drinker like me uncomfortable. Now an Iron Maiden concert has much more aggressive overtones than a Mets game but lets go back to MSG for a moment shall we? I attended a Rangers-Islanders game and of course they sold beer, by the third period the fans of either team were arguing with each other vicously and there were 2 fist fights in my section alone. Im not saying ban beer just saying alcohol can be a dangerous thing to some people in certain settings.

In the past Twenty years I have seen ZERO fights in the parking lot or in the stands during any Opening day..NONE! This has little to do with the consumption of beer. You can buy gallons of beer in the stadium and that is fine but outside it is illegal and since it has been enforced we haven't brought in any beer to our Opening Day parties...What concerns me is that we have been loyal fans for so long and now that Shea Stadium sells out on Opening Day,the organization feels they do not need us anymore...ten years ago they wanted us to buy MORE than a hundred tickets and sometimes we obliged by taking one hundred tewnty five. This is a group of mostly FDNY firefighters. The office was told that!! Never Forget? remember that? It's just a shame that something we feel a part of for so long has basically closed the door on us and told us we can't sell you one hundred tickets...or 10 tickets for that matter..but if you buy one hundred six packs you can go to Opening Day...that would be SIX hundred tickets!! No Thanks!! I love going to games but they are making it tougher and tougher to go. ok...i'm finished ranting again

I wanted the fans a long time ago, since the football and baseball strikes, to get together and refuse to go to sporting events. The owners and players would have to realize that we aren't going to stand for the outrageous ticket prices. The owners and players gain at the expense of the fans, but corporations and rich fans don't really worry about it that much. You would only need ONE season of fans getting together and refusing to pay, for the owners to feel the sting. We all know that fans will continue to pay because we seek entertainment in our lives - also movie theater prices.

Ahh well 🙁

I agree with TKpervert! Keep stepping on the fans and the fans are going stomp back with a big boot!
