I don't know how in-depth you guys look into drafting but let me run a scenario by you. I am in a 16 team league (yes it sucks). We draw our draft positions before the actual draft so you can prepare. I have the 7th overall pick. In this particular league, you get 1 point per reception, but only 1 point per 20 yards receiving. This gives a little advantage to receiving RB's because you still get 1 point per 10 yards rushing. Anyway, if LT, AP, Stephen Jackson, Addai, Westbrook, and Brady are all taken, who would you guys pick in the 7th slot?

Moss...I know he is WR but he will go in most drafts in top 5

Manning...he is almost can`t miss

Portis

Barber

Larry Johnson...he is injured last year, it is big gamble vs. Big reward...he could be steal of draft

I know Moss is going high, I just hate risking that pick on a receiver. Manning would be solid. I see a lot of people taking Barber in the top 7. I don't like that pick just because its running back by committee and I don't think he'll be able to duplicate his TDs with Felix Jones in the offense. I'm scared of Larry Johnson. I think Herm Edwards ruined his career by overusing him and I don't think he'll ever be the same. Portis is usually solid too.

sounds like you have narrowed it down to Manning or Portis. eIther one would be a solid pick. Or maybe Grant , he is high on most boards but will he do it with new QB

AP (Min), LDT (SD), Brady, Manning, LJ, SJ (STL), Addai, Westbrook

Are probably top 7-ish

Carson Palmer, Moss, Romo, TO, Hasselbeck, Ocho-Cinco... next guys that come to mind.

I'm no expert, but that's off the top of my head.

i think you got to go with Portis or Manning. You can get decent receivers later on in the draft. You have to wait 18 picks for your 2nd round choice so all the top RBs and QBs will be gone. Manning might be picked in the top 6 so it's possible you may be able to get Addai with the pick.

Yeah I just went to Yahoo fantasy last night and did some research and yeah... half the guys I mentioned weren't even rated in the top 50. (They have a bunch of Rookie RB's ahead of Matt Hasselbeck and Big Ben. And Ronnie Brown ahead of Carson Palmer. So apparently the 15th best [at best] RB in the league is better than the 5th best QB in the NFL in fantasy...)

So with the 7th pick Portis or Manning looks good. (Maybe Gore or S-Jack, although one's inconsistent and the other a holdout). But why isn't you're league round robin? That just sucks.

So now my little more informed opinion is to pursue the likes of say MJD from Jacksonville or Marshawn Lynch in the 2nd round (if they're there). They're both young and can carry the load for their teams. If not, then maybe take a flyer on Thomas Jones in the 3rd...? With the Jets new OL and Favre, they could score more.

I appreciate the input fellas. I would definitely pick Steven Jackson if he was there, but I don't think he will be. Manning is tempting. Something about Portis doesn't appeal to me that high. I guess if Frank Gore is available, I might have to pick him. Mike Martz is the offensive coordinator in San Fran now so he should get a lot of catches out of the backfield, and in this league I get 1 point for every reception. I guess I'll see how it plays out. That draft is the 24th. I have another one this Saturday. In this league, QB's get the majority of the points. I don't know my draft position before draft day though. Its weird how you have to change your strategy depending on how the league's scoring works, but that's what makes fantasy football awesome.
