Alright, here's something i'm curious about. If you had to pick your favorite horror movies what would they be? They don't have to be the scariest. They don't have to be the most graphic or the most disturbing either (though they could be heh heh heh), they just have to be your favorite. How about...lets say...top 3. That's it! Ok people, rattle off your top 3 favorite horror movies.

Here are mine. I love horror.:

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street - ever since I was a kid I've loved this movie. IMO, Freddy is one of the greatest villians ever. The concept was genius as well.

2. Poltergiest - This scared the hell out of me when I was a kid and is still creepy.

3. Phantasm - "You believe that when you die you go to heaven...you come to us." - The Tall Man

1.Amittyville Horror- was a great movie and come on it had blood comin out of the walls(classic).

2. Ichi the Killer- just recently watched this one. probably one of the goriest movies i have seen in a while but good all the same(if ur the demented bloodthirsty type lol).

3.Friday the 13th- great movie and it was a great twist wen u found out it was Jason's mother, not Jason, killing everyone.

Hmmm...let's see...quite a weighty subject that is near and dear to my heart, so it must be a careful considered decision.

My Top 3:

1) From Hell - A very stylish, well shot and polished thriller with an excellent script and great performances from Johnny Depp, Ian Holm, Robbie Coltraine, and the always delicious Heather Graham.

2) Alien - A two hour piece of genius. True when you break it down its a classic "monster in a big dark house" movie. But if you look deeper, it is a cerebral, exquisite piece of horror. And besides, almost every other horror flick has been ripping it off for the last 25 yrs or so, and it still holds up even today. A timeless classic.

3) Jaws - Most would not consider it a horror movie, but I always seem to find it in the horror section of the video store so I'm counting it here. A sublime piece that shows us what real tension can be wrought when suspense is employed with a skillful hand. The camera work and the music offer the viewer a feeling of isolation from the rest of the world. We are on board the "Orca" with Brody, Hooper and Quint, and we are right there with them battling the shark from moment one...and there's no land in sight. As an interesting side note, really look at Robert Shaw's face, not only when he is giving his speech about the USS Indianapolis, but also when he goes into the hold to retrieve the lifejackets...great display of steadily rising dread.

Time to get off my soap box now I think . 🙂

Strange and Creepy but NOT True Horror!

Okay...I just saw this one last week...just came out on DVD.
Its a Japanese flick called : GOZU directed by Miike, who does something like 12 pics a year.
This is kinda like a Japanese Yakuza film meets David Lynch.
UNBELIEVABLE!!! Won't say anything else, but truly astonishing!!!

Here's my top 5, I know the last one isn't really a "horror" movie but I always think of that one when someone mentions horror so I figured I'd throw it in. Later,

Texas chainsaw massacre
Phantasm
Stephen King's IT
Evil Dead trilogy
Stir of Echos
