Larry Adler: Smoking Reefer
For the pensive, thoughtful smoker...

The Cats & The Fiddle: Killing Jive
If this doesn't put an illegal smile on your face, I guess we'll just have to tickle you....

Lincoln Chase: Whoosph....Omm! Aaaah!
If you smoke along with this song, like a game....take a hit, every time HE takes a hit.....starting at the very beginning....by the end of this song, you're going to be stoned immaculate...take it from Leo......😉

Steppenwolf: Don't Step On The Grass, Sam
Here Steppenwolf weighs in with a wicked, snakey riff and quite-righteous indignation at the whole situation.

Frankie Paul: Pass The T'Shu Peng
So many reggae tunes to choose from, but I love the melody and spirit of this song so much. Plus...it's the fabulously rare dub version! 😉

So....what's YOURS? 🙂

The only thing missing from your quintessential collection is the Kottonmouth Kings.

Janis Joplin - "Mary Jane"

Snoop Dogg - "California Roll"

Danny Brown -"Kush Coma"

Jhene Aiko -"Higher"

Beatles - "Got To Get You Into Mt Life"

John Prine- Illegal Smile (He claims it's not about pot, but no one believes him)

Cypress Hill-Hits from the Bong

Afroman- Because I got High (Personally I hate that song)

 Is that true?! Hmph. I never knew that.

What's so funny is...I ALMOST included "Got To Get You Into My Life".... love that that song was mentioned! I was intentionally going for rare and obscure "nuggets" that's why I left that one out.

(yes, he has said many times, it was "a love song to pot". Lennon thought that he'd written it about acid and said as much in interviews, but McCartney says it's about pot.) (McCartney didn't drop acid until the night they were overdubbing vocals on to "Getting Better", almost a year later, so that makes sense) (i'm a walking encyclopedia, don't even get me started, lol!)

Great additions, one and all! Keep 'em coming!

Kaya - Bob Marley
and also Easy Skanking, by Bob Marley
Legalize It by Peter Tosh
Don't Bogart That Joint - Fraternity of Man
You're a Viper: Fats Waller (anytime you hear the term "viper' in an old jazz song? that means a person who smokes weed, 😉
One Toke Over The Line: Brewer & Shipley

...and then there's the album of weed songs I wrote and recorded!....but.....I guess I can't share those with you guys, sorry....damn......I'd SO love to....😉

Hey, make sure you try that "game" with the Lincoln Chase song.....your eyes will be two horizontal slits by the time it's over.

Roll up for the mystery tour!!!! 😉

Drug and weed, if they are they the same.... (?) I'll contribute:

"Comfortably Numb" – Pink Floyd

“Blue Powder” – Steve Vai

"Black Magic Woman" - Santana (correct me if I'm wrong)

"Blue Jay Way" – Beatles

"Lithium" – Nirvana

"Purple haze" – Jimmy Hendrix

"Cocaine" - Bebe (unexpectedly sweet song)

No clue who they are, but the name sounds like they are as cool as ICP

I believe they're label mates, lol!

Anyway, I was totally joking and am quite embarrassed!

Not necessarily weed songs.....but certainly songs you might like when you're ON weed! 🙂

"Purple Haze" was a science fiction poem Jimi wrote. "Blue Jay Way", stoney though it is, was actually written in L.A. (the name of the street was Blue Jay Way), and there was a fog, and George Harrison was waiting for Derek Taylor to show up. And he wrote it on a harmonium that was in the house. So that song is actually quite literal.

HOWEVER........the song that precedes it on the album, "Flying".......well...why do you think they call it flying?....😉

The Beatles: Flying
Trivia about this highly psychedelic clip, directed by the Fabs themselves, the footage was actually shot for Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove", and later used in "2001: A Space Oddessy" Around this time, Kubrick met with The Beatles and had talked about doing a version of "Lord of the Rings", Lennon as Golem, Harrison as Gandolf, and McCartney and Ringo as the two main hobbits. Now....didn't I just blow your mind? 😉

PS: Drugs and weed are NOT the same and I intentionally omitted cocaine songs, and acid songs, and heroin songs, drinking songs etc...but....if you want to open it up to them, who am I to stand in the way? I mean, who?!

Cleo Laine: The Stuff Is Here (and it's mellow!)

Ok....full disclosure....this song, by the great stride pianist Cleo Laine, sounds like a Prohibition song........HOWEVER....this song is what I sing EVERY time I get home or get to where I'm going after seeing "the man". On top of that, it was recorded in 1935, after Prohibition ended...and with the title being "The Stuff Is Here And It's Mellow"....mellow usually was used in a reefer context back then, as opposed to alcohol.)

You also have to love the conspiratorial, hush-hush vocal she gives on this...

Either way....who among us can't relate to:

Lock the windows, and close the door.
Start the party up once more!
Hey, hey, let's get gay
because the stuff is here!

Everybody grab that glass
'cuz the good stuff's about to pass
Hey, hey, we're on our way
for the stuff is here!

Three Dog Night - Mama told me not to come

Open up your window, let some air into this room
I think I'm almost chokin' from the smell of stale perfume
And that cigarette you're smokin' 'bout scared me half to death
Open up the window sucka, let me catch my breath ...

*sings*

I was GONna re-ply to this:

yes, he has said many times, it was "a love song to pot"

…but then I got high

I was gonna Make a lame joke about this:

I love that guy (Vanillaphant)

…but then I got high

And Now I’m typin’ shit… And I know why... (yeah hey!)

Cos I got high

Because I got high

Because I got hi-igh

(la-da-da da da da)

Oh boy. Even if you don’t like my jokes, you’ve got admire the effort! lol

Also: Good luck getting that song outta yer head for the next few minutes! :mwahaha:
