Of course, today is February 29th.

So what do forum members think of this day that happens only once every four years?

Cool? Just another day? Or. Bleh?

The one thing that's always.. bothered me about our once every four years day.

People who were born on February 29th..

I mean, I know most of them probably celebrate their birthday on Feb 28th, or March 1, most years.

However, the only time their actual birthday falls out the day they were born is once every four years.

I know my birthday is January 23rd, every year.

Of course I have celebrated it on the 24th, due to weather, illness, work, family members other obligations, etc.

Supposedly, the reason for Feb 29th is because it takes 365 and one quarter days for the earth to revolve around the sun, so by coming up with an extra day on the calendar every four years, this makes up for such.

Anyhow, so thoughts on our extra February day that happens only once every four years?

As a person who is a salaried rather than hourly employee, I think of it as a day that I work for free. So I'm pretty bleh about it. It's a good thing i enjoy what i do for a living lol. :banghead:

Totally off topic, but congratulations on reaching 25,000 posts Mitchell! I'm hoping to hit 50 soon.

Thank You, Sensual.

The easy way for me to remember it's leap year, as a history major lol, is that it's a presidential election year in the US.

Every leap year falls in a presidential election year in the US

I mostly just remember it as the part of the nursery rhyme that no one can agree upon:
Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November.
All the rest have thirty-one,
Excepting February alone,
aaaaaand then there's like a gazillion different versions, half of which fall out of iambic pentameter and therefore drive me nuts... XD

Other than that, 's just a day.

Wow, now there's a person with an investment in the leap year. I never thought about that - every four years salaried people take a slight pay cut.

In both leap years and other years, I have always resented having to pay a full month's rent in February, which is a short month.

My favorite newscast in Philadelphia that Jeff found me online, Mr Jim Gardner, did a news story about a lady who turned 100 years old yesterday, and was born on Feb 29, 1916;. WPVI news interviewed this lady, and she said that in reality, she is only 25, because she can celebrate her real birthday on the actual day she was born, only once every four years.
