I have to admit, I saw this one coming. And now, for the second time in a few years, the Gators will go from out of the top 2 to the national championship game. Not to mention the fact that it's another notch in Tim Tebow's belt. I like this kid a lot. I just get a certain "feeling" of predestiny...the last time I got that feeling was when I used to watch a young quarterback from Tennessee named Peyton Manning. I think Tebow's one of those guys whose college success will carry over to the NFL. (Please, Minnesota, find a way to draft him...pleasepleaseplease....)
These are the games I point to when people say a playoff system will "ruin" the regular season games...take their "meaning" away.
How many times have the divisional championship games changed the face of the BCS after a team or two (or three) had a predestined direction all season. All of 'Bama's wins and games this year are for naught as they'll settle for a Sugar Bowl berth.
Look at Penn State. Most of the year, all the talk was of the Nittany Lions and JoPa getting a title shot before his retirement. One single field goal by Iowa changed everything, erasing the importance of Penn State's first win over Ohio State at Columbus in 30 years.
Texas Tech's last-second play that beat Texas, while destined for every DVD set of great college games of all-time, now means little other than to their own fans after an embarrasing single loss later down the road.
Point is, the regular season games already mean little once late November rolls around and all these divisional upsets take place, like they always do. A playoff system would have all these teams...Florida, Texas, T-Tech, Alabama, Oklahoma, Penn State, the always-screwed-even-when-they're-undefeated Boise State...playing a series that would crown a true national champion.
Oh yeah....I'm on my soapbox. Sorry.
Congrats Gators!!!! I'm pulling for ya in the title game. Not a fan of Oklahoma.
