While surfing the net on, 'reflexology' I got linked through to this skeptic site about it's benefits. The most interesting part was at the end of the article which reads, "One reason foot massage may be so pleasurable and is associated with significant improvement in mood is that the area of the brain that connects to the foot is adjacent to the area that connects to the genitals. There may be some neuronal overlapping. Neuroscientist V.S. Ramachandran writes of a person whose leg was amputated and who experienced orgasms in his phantom foot (1998: 36-37). “The genitals are right next to the foot in the body’s brain maps,” he notes, and speculates that this fact may account for foot fetishes. "
The full article can be read at http://skepdic.com/reflex.html

Hmm so what does this say about people like me who like to tickle feet?

I guess we'll never know but we can but theorise.

I've seen this stated before by neurologists and I do find it interesting, but I'm really inclined to enjoy my fetishes rather than worry about where they came from. 😀

Well... It appears to say, that the foot's area of the brain, overlaps slightly with the genitals' area of the brain, and that this might account for people like us who have a foot fetish.

well, it's just interesting to know. I'm over being concerned about it, I know it's here to stay but I'm just interested biologically or pychologically speaking why it occurs.

i have a different take on it

the foot region of the brain being next to the genital part, and causing overlapping, would explain why someone would have a fetish for having their feet played with! not like us, the players! there is nothing in that theory to explain our love of beautifull feet.
so once again, science gets it wrong.

^ Not necessarily. The overlap might not be the direct cause as such, but it's highly likely that it contributes to our unordinary psychological development. For example, someone who enjoys feet will move on to enjoying tickling feet, and then to tickling in general. It build up like that. Hm, that's what happened with me anyway.

That's very interesting information :happyfloa

I always felt that it could have something to do with when you're a child. You crawl around the floor all day, amongst a forest of legs. Now, if you've a loving parent, you want to see their approaching feet, because you're going to be hugged or played with or whatever. But, on the otherhand, an over-bearing parent could cause you to grow up hating feet because they represent the approaching parent about to make you do what you don't want to. Granted, it's just an idea, but it's based on seeing friends who hate feet and have over-bearing mothers and others (me included) who have a foot fetish and have loving parents.

Our early development creates the people we become. Many of the lee's that I've spoken to have hand troubled backgrounds, ranging from sexual abuse, to bullying to simple self loathing, and a lot of them don't have a love of tickling, they just have a desire for the gentle touch and human contact that has been absent in their youth.

But, of course, this will change from person to person as our backgrounds will make us develope differently, and it's just an idea I have but I learned everything I know about psychology from the Jerry Springer Show, so that's got to count for something 😀

I don't have a foot fetish, but I havd several others, no event in my childhood made me the way I am, I was just born a pervy mcperverson.

That's what I was thinking; until recently I've never heard of the term "foot fetish" used to describe anything but sexual arousal as a result of visual or physical stimulation from other people's feet. Gleaning sexual pleasure from having your own feet touched doesn't seem particularly remarkable. I'm not even sure that two centres of the brain's proximity to each other is necessarily conclusive of anything, in and of itself.

(I wouldn't say that that hypothesis has anything "wrong," but you're right, it doesn't seem to account for the kind of attraction that I think is normally understand to be associated with a foot fetish.)
