Can anyone point me to any studies, public surveys, thesis abstracts, etc. specifically related to tickling and sexuality? I don't know how much academic study has been done on the subject, as we're a pretty small community (relative to other sexual predilections).

I think it would be interesting reading material, and I'd be curious to see how the research squares with my own personal experiences and preferences.

Non-scientific studies (aka forum polls) are ok, but not really what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, a cursory scholar.google.com search yielded nothing, but I hoped someone here would have special knowledge.

Shame. If I was still doing the university thing, I would probably do this myself.

There actually have been some articles done on tickling. The most famous one some of us older folks remember, involved participants who watched videos and then were tickled. They were also lead to believe they were being tickled by a machine, to see if it would make them laugh.

However, if your talking about sexuality and tickling linked together in a study...i'm not to sure, but i know there have been a few erotic books put out that have had some info involving tickling in it.

Tell you what though. I'm currently in college, so i'll take a look at our databanks and see if there are any papers listed. Truth be told, i'm a little surprised i haven't looked myself. However, i imagine they would be pretty clinical.

After a short look, while i found articles about tickling, none of them were of much interest as they were pretty clinical, though some of them were a bit interesting. Unfortionaly the databanks didn't have all the info at hand.

One thing of interest though, was one of the experiments were both left and right feet were tickled, and it seemed to be found that the right foot was more ticklish. The theory behind this was that the left side of the brain has more to do with certain responses.

Another study which was interesting was a short one on a tumor found in some peoples heads. Apparently the tumor seemed to trigger the impulse to laugh. One women described it as having her head tickled. The sensations seemed to last 10-15 seconds and occur about 10 times a day.

Wait, let me count....zero. Hey, that was easy! 🙂

Not true.

Neurobiologist Robert R. Provine published a book entitled "Laughter: A Scientific Investigation." He is currently at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County campus. He is a Professor of Psychology and also the Assistant Director of the Neuroscience Program at UMBC.

There is an entire chapter in this book about tickling.

One can imagine the beauty of such a study....

Research subjects would need to be carefully chosen for their suitability. Thankfully our colleges and universities have many well-qualified, fit, young, cute, eager young lasses just waiting to <s>be coaxed into a deliciously sadistic predicament</s> volunteer for good of science.

I'm not a doctor, I'm a tickle-maniac, (though it's more fun to reveal this once your "patient" is quite helpless in her medical restraints), but here's what I think I know:

Note that on the female somatosensory homunculus, or a humanoid map of the sensory center of the female human brain, the toes lie adjacent to the clitoris and the soles of the feet lie adjacent to the toes. Additionally, the sensations of light touching, itching, and tickling of hairless skin moves over the same routes through the nervous system as the sensation of light touching, fondling, kissing, and licking of the genitalia (such as the clitoris and vaginal folds).

Don't you read the letters to Penthouse and Hustler???? Duh!! 😉 Try finding research/books/articles under "the psychology of laughter". I have a collection (somewhere) of articles I found back in the day. The arousal side of tickling was not a frequent topic. The book "Erotic Tickling" by Michael Moran is more hands on than research oriented. I would also search threads here and at TT, since similar topics have come up in the past.

Thanks so much everyone. I thought this thread was dead, but it turned out TMF was going into my spam folder. fail.

However, if your talking about sexuality and tickling linked together in a study...i'm not to sure
Yeah, this is the sort of thing that I would really like to see, but I doubt it. I suppose one could look at other studies linking sexuality with some other not-normally-sexual thing, and correlate.

Phasers set to tickle!!!

NASA spent billions and now they will at least have something to show for it. Bout damn time!!
