Just a little something I made to remind everyone to please keep the victims of hurricane Katrina in your thoughts and prayers and to help out in any way you can. I can not begin to imagine the horror and turmoil that faces each and every one of them right now as they try to find lost loved ones, grieve over lives lost, and face the task of rebuilding everything they've ever known from nothing at all.

Every donation(money, blood, supplies), every gesture, and every prayer counts.

It's appreciated Mimi. We're now housing and feeding and caring for 10,000
people from New Orleans in our small town. They're somewhat the lucky ones that did get out. A lot of them don't know about other relatives that didn't.
All we can do is confort them as best as we can.
We've gotten their children registered into our school system, so hopefully that will fulfill one need. But for so many, they don't have anything left to go home to. They lost everything. Houses, jobs, and security.
I can't even begin to fathom what they're facing. Anyway, thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers

Very touching and meaningful post, Mimis. Watching the suffering that the victims are enduring on tv makes me want to cry. I have tried to do my part in my small way by sending a donation, in addition to my mom's donation, to the Red Cross. It wasnt much, because unfortunately I'm not rich, but it was a gesture of wanting to extend aid in my small way. If all of us could send food, clothing, or a small donation, the situation could be greatly helped. I heard earlier today that the Red Cross has collected 27 million in individual donations, in addition to the large corporate ones, but needs hundreds of millions more. It has been good to see how people have opened their hearts, and wallets to help the victims, but I hope we can get enough money to give the victims what they really need. They have suffered a traumatic horror, one that will take a long time to overcome.
My heart goes out to the victims, and I urge all of us to contribute in any way we can. It is a most important cause, to give some hope to the ravaged victims of this horrible tradegy.

I am also not rich, but I went to redcross.org which is were you can make your donations, and I gave what I could. This is by far the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. I know most of us here aren't rich by any means, but im sure most of us could spare $25. After seeing the images I've seen today I wish I had moer to give.

A very touching tribute, Mimi. Thank you. My thoughts and prayers are going out to those affected by this disaster. I still can't believe an entire city can be lost to a storm, but unfortunatly Nature doesn't pick and choose.

A good point you brought up about donating blood. Next to money, it's going to be one of the most important things. Hospitals are already overcrowded and supplies must be dwindling. There are a lot of injured, folks, and they could use a good shot at recovery.

this is very frustrating for me. I have next to no money, and they would turn my blood down (NO - NOT HIV, another blood dis-order)! there are 25,000 Katrina refugees being sent to where I live, last I heard yesterday.

I think a lot of us feel this way. But, since you have people being taken in in your area, you can always volunteer some time to help in the shelters they have set up. If you can't take the time immediately, there's always other days. The greatest need many of these folks are going to have beyond the immediate physical ones is a caring ear to let them vent and grieve.

One thing we need to keep in mind is that this is going to be a need for a LONG time. This isn't a short term thing. These people may be well over a year getting back to somewhere that they can take care of themselves again. Relocating may be an option for those with family or friends in other areas. But, for many, everyone and everything they had was down there and is now gone. Those are the people who will need our help the most.

Thanks for this thread and your wonderful image, Mimi. We need to remember that this is our brothers and sisters down there. I encourage everyone to help in whatever way they can.
