Just read this...

http://www.olympic.org/en/

He was the second longest serving IOC President in recorded history and he presided over what many people have termed as the "most eventful era in Olympic history" with his wide-ranging career including the success of exponential growth in the popularity of the Olympic Games and Olympic movement and the lows of several political boycotts and scandals, most notably the judging scandal of Salt Lake City. His career was a full one and he passed away at his bedside in Spain, in the comforting presence of his two children and his partner.

Samaranch was 89.
