Forum Thread vs Blog?

It has been a few years since I've been active in the forums here. I noticed the new Blog feature, and I'm curious to know:

• What is a blog post?
• What's the difference between writing a blog and starting a forum thread?
• What are the pros/cons of one over the other?

I'm guessing a blog post it something more personal, can be rambling, can be an opus, about tickling or anything, it can invoke likes and comments..

Starting a thread is more interactive, maybe a question or a theme, that readily invites folk to illicit a response.

That's pretty much how I think of it as well. Blog posts are for sharing your content in whatever form (article, story, poem, journaling, etc). Forum posts are more discussion focused. You can share something in a thread that you'd post in a blog if you want, but the tone would be more of sharing with intent to discuss it.

I believe the blog feature has been around for quite a long time, but was seldom used. There are actually a ton of them from years ago, but most are empty (no posts). I actually wish that those were cleaned up to make it easier to browse actual blog content.

It looks like you have some control over audience/privacy with blog posts too. And where thread posts are usually more intended for sharing ideas/media and community feedback, blog posts may or may not necessarily require interaction.
