Forum Thread vs Blog?

It has been a few years since I've been active in the forums here. I noticed the new Blog feature, and I'm curious to know:

• What is a blog post?
• What's the difference between writing a blog and starting a forum thread?
• What are the pros/cons of one over the other?

I'm guessing a blog post it something more personal, can be rambling, can be an opus, about tickling or anything, it can invoke likes and comments..

Starting a thread is more interactive, maybe a question or a theme, that readily invites folk to illicit a response.
