Fuel prices skyrocketing?

In anticipation of the oncoming Gulf war, fuel prices are skyrocketing here in Germany. We already had 3 increases in the past 6 weeks, and now the price is up to $ 3.97 per American galleon (I converted liters and Euros) for normal unleaded fuel, and up to $ 4.25 for high-octane, as the local minimums (!).

Discussing this with a friend, I’d like to know how the fuel price has developed recently in the States, and how much the oil multis are charging you. Thanks!

they're not so much skyrocketing here, but they're going up and up. It's nothing too big so far.

Oil prices are going up here in America too, but at about $2/gallon here in Southern California, it's not THAT bad, unless you drive an SUV or something. 😛

Regular gas is about $1.50/gal here. It's a rip off, of course. The gasoline we're buying today came out of the ground in Saudi about 3 months ago.

It's $1.44 for regular where I am, $2.00 in CA 😱 I thought $1.44 was high!!!!! And I see now that I can never travel to Germany $3.97 and $4.25 for high octane:sowrong: :sowrong: This is so wrong! But hey what can we do about it.

Thanks Hal for posting this🙂

Thanks for the input, folks. I agree it's mostly a rip-off. The big oil companies keep their tankers out at sea because they hope the spot market price will rise soon. Thus there is an artificial supply shortage in Rotterdam (our main oil market). And all the multis are organized in illegal price cartels, only they can't be held responsible BECAUSE they are multinational. :sowrong:

Prices here in the US have been rising because of the unrest in Venezuela...our 3rd largest oil source. Things are settling some there just in time for us to go to war. :sowrong: You want to guess where the oil to make up for the loss of our Ven. source has come from? IRAQ! 😱 They increased production to make up the loss...and, I'm sure, to set us up for an even bigger price hike when they pull theirs once war begins.

Regular is about $1.59 here, including about 48 cents a gallon in various taxes. This was the approximate price last summer, not winter.

Hal pointed out that oil tankers are sitting out at sea waiting for spot increases. They did the same off the US coast in 1973 and in the late 70s again. The news show 60 minutes once announced a show where they claimed to have film of gasoline tankers dumping gas in the desert to create artificial spot shortages. However,on the show supposedly dedicated to this, neither the film, nor any mention of it,were produced.

No gas shortage

There is no shortage of gas. We have enough fuel in reserves to last 10 years. But what we do have, are a group of greedy oil tycoons who are using the threat of war as a reason and excuse to raise prices, saying there will be a "shortage" of gas. The only thing there is a "shortage" of in the oil business, is integrity.

They did this exact same thing during the Gulf War, when prices shot as high as $1.75/galleon in some places when the oil industry declared their was a "oil shortage".

If anybody else was doing this, they would be hauled away for price fixing. I am not suprised that Congress is not investigating this matter, as they themselves are property of the oil industry and have been bought off and paid for,.
