First off, we all know it's a business and these guys and gals are just trying to make a buck like we all are. Secondly, it's things like these that remind me we all are only human. These are just a few instances I have witnessed from pro wrestlers that make me want to continually support this business with my viewing time and hard earned dollars..
(1) During the heyday of "Psycho Sid" when he was a supposed all-out 'bad guy' and hated the world.. the good guys stormed the ring to fend him off after he had attacked another good guy. They stood in the ring and yelled at him, pointing and such, and Sid yelled back and gave them a .. well, a universal sign lol.. then inexplicably, Sid turned and gave a kid sitting in one of the aisle rows a hug. The kid was confined to a wheel chair. Then seconds later, Sid went back into character and started yelling at the 'good guys' again lol.
(2) Another time when the NWO was the baddest gang around, I had the fortune to see them wrestle at the Los Angeles Forum (back when it was the Forum). During a bathroom break, I walked backstage to see Scott Hall and Kevin Nash signing autographs and talking to kids. Keep in mind, this was when the NWO were rival enemies with 'Sting' and considered 'thugs' and had 'no respect' for anyone or anything lol. Yeah, right.
(3) On a personal note, I was once eating at a local amusement Park when Ric Flair made his way inside. He wasn't in character and was totally himself. I was with a friend (who was disabled). Ric made his way over and introduced himself to her and myself. He signed us an autograph and was very polite to us both. I will always remember him for that, regardless of what his character does these days on Vince's show.
Again, these are just reminders that pro wrestlers are real people and what we see on tv are just characters. Keep this in mind when you might get ignored or think one of them as 'stuck up' just because their busy schedule prevents them to being so cordial.
