G.I. Joe the movie (2009)

How many of you are looking forward to the G.I. Joe movie that is scheduled to come out in August 2009?

Me? HELL NO. From all the information that I have been hearing and reading, they (the movie producers) are going to seriously fuck this movie up. Those bastards are screwing with an American legend. First of all, GI Joe will not be American. It will be some international organization crap. GI Joe has always been and always will be AMERICAN. It's great that there should be an international community to help stop the threat of terrorism, but with GI Joe it is ALL AMERICAN. What the hell is wrong with them?

GI Joe is by far my favorite cartoon. I like Transformers. I love Star Wars, He-Man, Thundercats, Voltron, Batman, Superman, and of course RoboTech. But GI Joe is without a doubt, the closest to my heart. I had a huge collection of toys and to even think about what they have planned is killing me.

First of all, GI Joe is a collection of people who are unique individuals. In the movie, they will all wear black. WTF? They are tinkering with the idea of Cobra Commander and Duke being brothers. WTF?!!!! As much as I love the Rock (Dwayne Johnson), he is no damn Shipwreck. WTF? They are even tinkering with the notion that Destro will ONLY wear his mask when he is in combat. WTF???!!!! I am seriously hating these producers and screen writers. This series is very near and dear to me and they are already fucking it up.

Any thoughts?

You wanna know how I know? One name : Stephen Sommers.

He ... who is responsible for helming such putrid wackness such as Van Helsing , The Mummy , & The Mummy Returns ... is directing this flick.

So yeah , to avoid being driven completely insane by seeing one of my favorite childhood franchises being bastardized ... I will not be seeing this dreck when it surfaces from hell.

With you all the way Prime. I couldn't wait for this movie to get greenlighted as I grew up on these toys and cartoons. But as soon as they started talking this global anti terrorist group I pissed it away. This is not taking anything away from our members all over the world and their great countries, but GI Joe is the, and I quote from the toy over the last 40 years, Real American Hero. First invented as a toy US soldier, it's what my older brothers played with with they were young pretending to be my uncles that were off fighting in the war. And they changed it because in their words "by making them an international organization, we'll expand the box office monies tenfold". The almighty dollar.

And yea, while the all black looks decent, each of those figures had very different looks from each other as well as the personalities to boot. I don't know, like you, I guess I'm just pissed that they are changing everything we know about a toy we held closest to our hearts for years as a kid.

A Hot Mess

Yeah I read some of the same things that yall had and I can say with certainty that this movie will suck shaved monkey balls.

First they got this fake-ass, wannabe, pretty boy thug from Step It Up playing Duke. That just some ole bullshit. Duke needs to be a grown ass man not some punk.

Global anti-terrorist group? Give me a break. I don't want to sound like a brash, jingoistic American, but this is ours. Back before they offered Pierce Bronsnan the James Bond job, they were talking to Tom Cruise. That would have been a huge mistake. Bond is British just like GI Joe is American.

They got Ray Park playing Snake Eyes which is good. Bruce Cambell should play Shipwreck not Rock.

This movie is on its way to being a colossal failure. But they won't diminish my memories.

I'm glad to see people agree with me. Just thinking about what they are planning on doing just pisses me off. GI Joe IS American. To hell with the rest of the world and their "America is a bully" views. If movie producers want to make a movie about an international specialized group fighting terrorism, call it something else, NOT GI Joe. GI Joe is a "Real American Hero".

They haven't said what Cobra Commander will look like, but dammit, he BETTER be in his silver mask. The hood is okay, so is the battle armor, but the silver face plate is what made him unique. Too bad the guy who did his voice passed away years ago. His voice was also what made him unique. Anybody agree?

Man, they are really going to ruin this movie....
