not to mention the visual for the 'ler. any kind of gag, be it tape or bit, looks good on the right 'lee.

In some cases, the reason is quite practical. The loud laughter and screams of the lee would cause neighbors to call the police.

Yes there are times when a gag is nice to muffle the screaming laughter and the constant begging and pleading...lol
along with everything else said about adding to the feeling if helplessness of the ticklee. During a very long and intense tickle session, it adds to the look of desperation in the lees eyes and the eyes begin to beg and plead for mercy ungiven!

It doesn't. You just have to use non-verbal safe signals. Possibilities include "shave and a haircut" through the gag, three finger-snaps, holding something that makes noise when dropped, and so on.

Depending on the lee, a gag can provide a delicious mmmpphhhh whenever you are tickling her soft soles. Moans and grunts are sexy.
Tape gags have that sinister look but provide pleasure to the Ler or Captor (consensual, of course). A silver tape gag looks delicious on a bound and gagged blonde or a white one goes well with any pretty girls, but can restrict breathing.
A cleave gag (scarf between the teeth) is ideal for tickling because the lee can still breath normally and laugh. You can still see their pretty smile, even though the poor damsel can't talk.
A ball gag, a favorite among us bondage enthusiasts, can be very sexy but also can limit breathing, but not as much as the tape gag. Occasionally, the lee can open their mouth to breath, but also causes drooling.
In any situation if gagging a lee, I wouldn't ever leave them bound and gagged alone for a long period of time, in fact don't, and ALWAYS agree on a safe word or signal. Play safe, for Cliff's sake!

I'm pretty sure it's just that the 'lee feels more helpless. I've been told that the panic of not being able to beg the 'ler to stop makes the more intense as it limits the things the 'lee can do to ignore the tickling. Following that, tying down the 'lee so they can move even less than usual would probably have the same effect as a gag.

When I was in the first grade, had my tonsils removed... they removed my adnoids as well.
The adnoids dwell in back of the nose... kinda... and I'm not sure why, but since then I have breathed mainly through my mouth.
I am also claustrophobic.
That said... gags scare the shit out of me.
The thought of being in a situation where I would need maximum air... such as being tickled... and not be able to get it is not a comforting thought.
Thank goodness I have had 'lers who understand and respect this.
I have been tickled in public places and have found that I can stifle most of the noise or keep it to a low giggle so as not to attract too much attention. I must admit though, that trying to be quiet takes away from the enjoyment of the tickling as I have to concentrate on not being heard and am not able to fully enjoy the experience.
