Moved out to California because I was offered a really nice job. Get here, go to the interview, goes fine. Two weeks go by, hear nothing from them. Snap my fingers, little worried about money, start looking for other jobs, then I get an e-mail from the guy. He wants me to start whenever I can. Give him a call, discuss the job a bit but call gets cut short, says he'll call me back. Two days go by, get another e-mail from the guy. Wants to send me to Chicago for training, I have no problem with that, I love travelling. Give him a call to continue our previously cut conversation. Sorry, due to a situation, can't hire anyone right now.

:ranty: Grrrrrr. He knew I was moving out here for the job, asked me to himself. I know the company's fine, and even takes good care of their workers. Ah well, waking up in the morning and expecting life to make sense isn't something I do often. This just made me a little mad. Just got off the phone with him, needed to vent.

I do not know any identifying information about that company; name, location (okay, California) industry, size, anything.

In that context of zero knowledge, I am quite confident in telling you here and now that that company, and the person with whom you were in direct contact, are both disorganized parties who posess a very unhealthy attitude toward money with a "focus" that will not stay still; typically because of the next phone call which contained talk of a larger payment if directions will change.

That cycle will repeat itself when the next phone call comes along with an even larger sum of money discussed.

Problem is, chasing after the next pot of gold has a way of producing zero results after the forty zillionth rainbow (which, normally, was just described over the phone; they never saw the actual rainbow).

There is no pot of gold.

Rainbows do not have ends.

Swimmingbird, this company (and most probably this individual who was providing you all these stories to induce false hope) is more than likely to be motivated by the next passing dollar, with no significant market to be sustained for any useful length of time.

It's doubtful that you would have had five years there; probably not even two. The general way these places use humans is to get you excited at the start, string you along for a year, and then change the target focus to the next rainbow, then criticizing your performance and sending you out onto the street.

Yeah, screw them. I've actually known an employee who's worked there for about four or five years, says it's a pretty secure place. Don't doubt it since she's been out for surgery for three weeks, getting get well cards and not a single threat of termination. The guy offering me the job, I met eight months ago. Offered me a job back then, didn't take it. I moved back to Missouri to help me ma sell her house, got another job offer from the guy, my two best friends said they were moving out here too, well, you know the story. I'm not pouting about it anymore, I'll be alright somehow or another. He wanted me to program a class 4 laser mounted on a robotic arm, but something's up with the department. Haven't produced anything in weeks, maybe more than a month now. Would have been a cool job is all. Now how am I supposed to take down James Bond?

I'll probably end up waiting tables and trying to get acting gigs. Thanks for the tip, I'll look out for that sort of environment, but this one wasn't quite as such.
