This is an interesting point of trivia, especially for our friends who are not from the USA. In reality, George W Bush is the 42nd man to serve was President of the United States, and not the 43rd. This being because President Grover Cleveland is counted as two presidents, having been the only president thus far to serve two split terms. Cleveland was elected in 1884, inagurated in 1885, and was defeated for re-election by Benjamin Harrison in 1888. After Harrison served a four year term, Cleveland ran for re-election a second time against Harrison and won in 1892, becoming president again in 1893, and serving until William Mckinley took office in 1897. Grover Cleveland is thus counted as both our 22nd and 24th presidents. So, due to this, each president after Cleveland left office the second time, was actually, in terms of number, one number before what the history books say. I.E. Bill Clinton was the 41st man to serve as President and so on. An interesting piece of trivia, I think, especially to those who may not be aware of it.
