Just saw a report on TV about Germany's largest model train display in Berlin. It's HUGE!!! The area measures about 27000 sq ft and shows several parts of Berlin in HO scale (1:87). All buildings and several thousands of people are hand-made, the cars move, too, and lots of details are simply hilarious!

Here are a few pics for you:

They do have other languages for it as well Look at the bottom of the pages ya'll

Marvelous!

27,000 square's huge. It looks like reality brought down to a perfect scale- the American way of doing this would've been to use a lot of cute, charming touches. Disneyesque. This, though, is awesome.

We have an interesting one here, within driving distance. It's called 'Roadside America', near Reading, PA, all 'O' gauge, 8,000 square. A local man started it shortly after the first World War. By the time he died in 1963, he still wasn't done with it...it was left for his family to finish. Today, it's a great tourist attraction.

There was one about fifteen years ago, up in Peabody, MA, that was remarkable...someone created his own HO city from scratch. He gave it a real Depression-era motif. I'd love to see THAT one someday.

It's up in Hamburg. I saw it while I was in Germany this summer it's pretty damn amazing. Plus their making more stuff for it.

The one you saw is this one: http://www.miniatur-wunderland.de/php/galerie/

They have over 60000 sq ft, but in different areas and with different themes. Also, they're using regular, pre-fabricated houses and figurines (with a few exceptions). To me, it looks rather "disneyesque", as Knox worded it.

The above pictures are from the model train site in Berlin, where everything is connected, and Berlin is the main theme. As most buildings were handmade individually, it looks much more realistic.

Holy toledo! The best I ever managed was a ten by five piece of wood with some raised and not raised track, respendent with a turning light, one or two buildings, and a small patch of trees. 😀 *Harks back to his days with Lionel* Thanks for the link and visuals, Hal, t'was nifty.

Yes, thank you, Hal.

There is another local one. 'Northlandz', up on US 202, in Flemington. I can't remember how big it is, but it's spread out throughout a building, in different rooms, different scales.

I love train layouts. I love the layouts more than the trains. When I was seven, there was a science fair in my school. Some of the kids made a scale version of the neighborhood surrounding my school. I was so fascinated that I didn't want to leave...and I knew that someday, I wanted to do something like this on my own. So, I have a trainless layout in my basement, covered with diecast cars. I'm not nearly as good at creating things as the pros are, but along the line, I'll be upgrading it. I can add trains later on if I feel like doing so. Keeps me out of trouble.

They also show some hilarious scenes, like a couple petting in a sunflower-field, or this one, a masturbating voyeur watching a sunbathing person... 🙂
