Where was all this looking back when the Sacramento Kings run ended? What about the looking back on the Phoenix Suns? The Dallas Mavericks fire Avery Johnson and all of a sudden "experts" come out of the woodwork to say "Maybe the Mavericks weren't that good after all" when two years ago everyone was saying that the Mavs were the better team and winning a championship was going to happen.

67-15 did happen, the 2006 Finals did happen, give the team its credit and stop acting like the window was never open. Yes I am a Mavericks fans and yes maybe I have blinders on, but I'm not going to look back and say this team was never any good to start with and everything that happened was a fluke.

I won't say the Mavericks run was a fluke. They have a good team. But, they will be known as "chokers". They had a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals, then had a double digit lead late in the 4th quarter of game 3, then choked the series away.

Then last year, they let Golden State beat them in the 1st round after having the best record in the regular season. Then this year, they trade for Jason Kidd and lose in the 1st round.

Basically, they are chokers. They have some really good players, but in crunch time, they haven't found a way to win.

The same could be said about Phoenix, who I laugh at even more. Oh, it was fun and laughs when they beat the Lakers in the 1st round, but they never made it to the Finals. I hope they realize that Shaq was a liability this year and he is part of the reason why they lost in the 1st round. The main reason is their lack of defense. Shaq actually made their defense better, but since he couldn't hit free throws to save his life, he had to go to the bench which exposed Phoenix's pathetic defense. Oh well....hahahahahahahahahahaha.

The Sacramento Kings weren't chokers, they just ran into the Lakers. Any other year, the Kings (particulary 2002) would have won the NBA Title. But, the Shaq-Kobe-Horry Lakers prevented them. That was another franchise that realized that you need to play DEFENSE to win titles.

i for the most part agree, the mavericks really should have won in 2006. that was a very weak year for the nba and the heat are one of the worst champions in recent history. i never agreed with the jason kidd trade, they gave up too much for an aging superstar who wasn't gong to bring the mavericks to the level of the lakers, hornets or spurs. i think after the lakers stole gasol there was some panic in the west to get some deals done.

i wouldn't necessarily say the suns choked. their biggest mistake was letting joe johnson go. i realize he wasn't happy but if i think if they paid him a bit more than atlanta and with some convincing he would have stayed. they were also unlucky that stoudamire was injured in 06, as I think with stoudamire the suns win the championship in 06.

The Suns didn't "choke" per se, but they still wouldn't have won, even with a healthy Stoudemire. Their blatant lack of focus on defense would have done them in. Their offense was running on all cyclinders, but eventually you have to play defense.

Shaq, despite all my jokes about him, made their defense better this year. His huge bulk clogged up lanes, so there was no longer a lay up drill against the Suns. But, he made their offense suffer as he clogged up the lanes and made Steve Nash slower. Nash likes to pentrate and kick, but with Fat Shaq, he couldn't go willy nilly in the lane anymore. Plus, Shaq STILL can't make free throws and that hurts their offense. Now, Shaq and the Suns are another year older....

I still think Dallas hasn't recovered from their choke job in 2006.

And sadly, that's how this team is going to be remembered. I personally wouldnt call what happened against the Heat a choke job, if it was a 3-0 lead with the Mavericks up thirteen in game 4 and the Heat came all the way back to win the series 4-3 then I would call it a choke job.

But your right, they never recovered from that, in there minds they are still playing Miami and still trying to close out that series, and whenever they get down in a game, the wave of '06 comes back to wash them under. Maybe the same could be said from the Kings after the Robert Horry shot did them in against the Lakers. The Kings, Suns, and Mavericks all had they're chances and all of them basically blew it.

The Kings didn't blow it, they had the bad luck of going up against a dynasty.

There's no question the Mavs have been one of the best teams over the past few years and there's no question Avery Johnson is a good coach. My problem with the Mavs has always been Dirk. He just disappears too much. I finally thought he was turning the corner last year, because he was demanding the ball, taking and making huge shots - but he's inconsistent. Against the Hornets - he just would disappear sometimes. I'd see him 17ft out, with some guard on him, and he would pass. WHAT? A 17ft jump shot is like a layup to him. It's one thing for Dallas to lose, but he should have been taking 40 shots, as clearly the teams best player/scorer and clearly the one with an advantage over just about anyone that guards him, and ESPECIALLY on defensive rotations. He also doesn't drive enough for my tastes.

And the kings would probably have a championship if they made free throws, dynasty or not.

I think Dirk is overrated and I'm starting to think Steve Nash is as well.

Steve Nash looked like a damn moron in some of those games vs the Spurs in this years playoffs.

Thats the bottom line, in my book....

Dirk got slapped in the mouth, and "faded away" in the 7th game loss of the NBA finals to Miami......IN DALLAS!!!!!!

Nowitzki lets Dallas (regular season record, 67-15) get MUGGED like a DRUNK in an ALLEY by GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (Warrior regular season record 42-40)!....Dallas is the "best record" team EVER to get "BOOTED OUT" in the FIRST ROUND of the playoffs!!!

Nowitzki scores EIGHT lousy points against Golden state in the last chance Dallas had last year to win a playoff game and avoid embarrassing first round elimination.....

You gotta get a better performance from your MVP and franchise player, period.
