Has anyone ever been broken when lee'ing before and it was unwelcome? Especially when playing with vanillas, how do you clarify what your limits are beyond a safeword?

Never been broken yet or made to say a safe word let along taken past such a point.

Yes, I have been broken and used my safeword. After a suitable pause when I said I was okay again, play resumed.
When a safeword is used, all play stops. If I couldn't trust a partner to follow that rule, then I wouldn't play with her.

It appears as if there is STILL confusion about definitions on the "safe word" issue.
TO ME...a safe word is a word that signifies the END...period...of the scene. Not a pause to regain composure........and then restart. Broken is the ticklee is DONE. Untie. Scene and session OVER. THAT is being broken. Not the need to catch a breath or readjust the cuffs or deal with a pain issue...etc etc. or some other minor or issue or temporary emergency of sorts.
Otherwise, a good trusted LER should KNOW their victim...or ticklee.....and know when to pause and so on.
To go any further here would be redundant and back to the stale debate on safe words. That is not what this is.

To me, the safeword simply means "STOP!" After the 'ler has stopped, the 'lee can explain if it is a problem to be fixed, a rest that is needed, or the end of the session.
Whatever it means to you should be agreed upon before the session begins, obviously, between the participants.

The whole tickling is unwelcome or does it just take too long? (Big difference! 🙂 )
In the first case, I clarify it pretty fast that it has to stop immediately, if they don't listen, with violence.
In the second case, that doesn't happen. Nobody who is not into tickling would tickle me long enough to break me, especially without bondage.
