What do you do when this happens?Do you freak out?Personally this is what scares the heck out of me about driving besides getting in a wreck.

No need to be afraid. I go into Hannibal Lecter mode. I'm calm, and even; I hardly blink and everything I say is mannerly. And the officer gets freaked out some. Alas.

Just as an aside, QBBM: It never hurts to show alittle cleavage, and I seem to recall your saying you are, ahem, amply endowed(?). Unless it's a lady cop. And even then in some cases. Probably. Maybe.

I'm not helping much, am I? :blink

Hannibal Lecter mode? "Terribly sorry, officer. I'm having a friend for dinner and there's a lot on my mind. Do you know where to find a good Chianti around here?"

Recently I got stopped at a "sobriety checkpoint". There were 7 or 8 state police vehicles if memory serves (with their flashers a-blazin'), and I had to drive - slowly - past a line of 5 or 6 uniformed officers before arriving at the one at the end of the line who asked me if I'd been drinking (I hadn't) and where I was driving in from. Sobriety checkpoint? What's really going on here?

Oh,God I would have had a heart attack!

Now Rick,I am a lady first and foremost and that behavior is completely unacceptable for a lady.

I think the cops at the checkpoints are trollin for bribes dude. But back on topic, I've gotten a warning the last 4 times I've been pulled over for going into, as Journia calls it, "hannibal lecter mode" because after all; rudeness is pandemic. XD

As Ali G marvelously stated in his show 'who wants to win an ounce':

What do you do if you is got some hash in your pocket and you is stopped by a copper:

a. Say sorry
b. Stick it up your arse
c. Stick it up copper's arse
d. Blow him away

After answering this simple question, you have to worry about policemen no more, QBBM.

Yeah thats what i do too

Sometimes there are situations that are simply unfair speed traps. A good example of that is having one at the bottom of a hill. My mom got that when she had been having really bad blood sugar

I got pulled over once, I was running late and I was driving 18mph over the speed limit and I got pulled over by an unmarked police car. I was proper shaking when he asked me to get out of the car and show my licence. He asked me, "Why were you going over the speed limit?" and I said, "I am running late" and he said "you're running even later now aren't you?!" Then he said, " why do I think that I should let you off with just a caution and not get the points?" I proper sucked up at that point and said I shouldn't be let off with just a caution coz I was going over the speed limit and I said I shouldn't coz it's the first time I've done it, to which he added, "you mean the first time you have been caught?!" lol So after a few more questions he let me off with just a caution.
Since then I've been very careful with speed limits to ensure that I don't get pulled over for speeding again. I'd rather stick to the speed limit, have someone right up my bumber coz of the speed I'm travelling (for those who don't like to stick to speed limits) and f and blind at them or laugh when I see the frustration on their faces in my rear view mirror.haha.

Yeah, the cops in a small town around here like to play "gotcha" in that manner as well. And the local university recently revised its on-campus speed limit from 30 MPH to 25 MPH, doubtlessly as a way to separate more drivers from their money (this hasn't stopped certain imbeciles from driving as though campus roads were Indianapolis or something!)

QBBM - I myself nearly had a heart attack when I saw that checkpoint! From a distance, it looked like there'd been a major accident.

Then he said, " why do I think that I should let you off with just a caution and not get the points?"

"Because your vehicle is a UNMARKED police car and I think that's a pretty good argument for entrapment."

^-~

I always wonder why people say this? Entrapment really? Haha, I laugh everytime I hear that one.

Some radio talk show host, I think it may have been Jean shepherd, told a story of how years ago, a sports car was tailgating him while he was driving through a small town, and he sped up to get out of its way only to find out that it was a sports car which was being used as an unmarked police vehicle. They pulled him over for speeding. He said, "Officer, would you please give me the ticket and let me go? I have to pee so badly I can taste it!". The officers let him go, minus ticket.

Anyway Massage31, I suspect that any female officers in your barracks must look forward to getting off duty when you're there! 🙂

I agree that it is a power play especially when dealing with a state cop. I never freak out, myself. They will seize on that in a second. Usually I just do what the guy says with a thank you and a smile. It is all B.S. but it strokes their ego for awhile. In some cases, the cop will let you off with a warning. But if you go off on them like a nutjob, you can kiss all that goodwill goodbye. LOL!

Well, first I usually try to put out the joint...

One of the best replies I have ever seen Rick!

It doesn't strike my ego when I pull someone over and they are kind and comply with everything I say. I appreciate it. Thing is, when I go after someone usually they were doing way over the limit and deserve a ticket.

Here is my license, registration and proof of insurance. 🙂

I totally agree with your statement. I'm the first one to bitch that there is never a cop around when there is a moron on the road. The main point I was making is that it is a power play situation. As an officer of the law it is your role to establish control of the situation immediately and I have no issue with that. Perhaps not you, but there are some out there who just let it get to their heads. It's just bad PR, that's all. I know the line you guys need to walk and I appreciate it.
