The neighborhood in which I live is rural. There are bylaws on the books against any development in the area of Montgomery County known as The Agriculture Reserve. Of course, developers are constantly trying to get around those laws, so the people who live here are very organized and are well represented in County Council meetings.
Mildred Farnsworth, the head of our civic association is a realtor, so right off the bat, there's a conflict of interest. Anyway, she has suddenly decided that she wants to get rid of her two goats, which she's had for five years. She contacted my neighbor Ann, who runs websites devoted to animal rescue. Ann said she'd try her best to find a home for them. However within a couple of days, a sign appeared on the front of Mildred's property that simply said, FREE GOATS. She was ready to give them away to anybody that asked for them, which includes anybody hungry enough to eat them. I can understand that sometimes we have to give away our pets due to circumstances that life sometimes deals our way. But most people at least take the trouble to try and find a good home. Mildred is not moving anywhere, she just decided she no longer wanted them. The woman has no heart. She'd even had their horns removed.
Anyway, I took them in. The Animal Vet came yesterday from Buckeystown and gave them shots and wormer. Ann and I trimmed their hooves but they were so badly neglected that it'll take a few "pedicures" to get their hooves back in shape. I don't have any pictures yet, as we only got them Saturday, but they are really cool guys, very friendly and social. I'll take some pictures this week and post them if anybody's interested in seeing them.
