Ive have not seen the movie and read some intresting things about it. My understanding from the film maker is though he never met Thompson, he could be the most charming of people or the biggest asshole in the world and his facination with guns was second to none. I never saw the Johnny Depp movie but I did see the one with Bill Murray years ago. As a former reader of Rolling Stone Ive always enjoyed whats now called his gonzo style of writing though I sense it really means he was really drunk most of the time.
