Guitars!

I'm 20, have always wanted to learn the guitar but have always thought it beyond my reach and too difficult.
Last week, I took the plunge. I bought a fairly cheap red and white Stratocaster copy; and it's looking pretty good. I'm slowly teaching myself the basics using various books, and I've memorised several chords and I can play over 10 intros to some of my favourite songs (E.g. Cochise by Audioslave, Killing in the Name by RATM). Which considering I've only been playing for about 8-10 hours can't be that bad.

My skill has always been, and always will be, singing. However, it'll be nice to be able to write melodies for my songs as well as write lyrics.

XP for me, it's my first electric guitar i just got in a few months back (acoustic before it) its a blue cort i think its pretty sweet ^^

but my guitar teacher has a amazing cort guitar made enterily out of wood and a Zack Wilde seris Les Paul id kill for either!

I just picked up a Peavey Wolfgang Special quilt-top on Saturday. It's the Eddie Van Halen signature model, and it was the first guitar I truly dreamed of... even before my love for the Paul came about. I'll get photos of my 6-stringed family soon!

I've owned 7 or 8 so far including an Ibanez 6/12 doubleneck (what a mistake that was).

The three best I've ever played were a '50s something Gibson Thunderbird ( I think), a current ('86 then) Jackson Randy Rhodes and a Steinberger transtrem.

The last one I was able to get for £400 some years back and it's now worth over £3000. It's the only guitar I've ever seen with no truss rod (carbon fiber neck and body).

hmm i own only 4 electric guitars and 1 acoustic, my electrics are: 2 stratocasters (1 is squier and 1 isnt) i have a gibson sg, and a phs, my acoustic is an ovation

Hi Folks

.....................

If you do start with an electric (and all the options above sound nice to me) I recommend a small Roland micro cube. Tiny box but it does a nice enough sound even for performances in small rooms and its got some inbuilt effects that are good for learners to play with. Google it I say! Google it!

I just picked one of those up. I absolutely think it's a great little practice amp with some very nice modeling effects. I would recommend it to anyone. I'm a big Marshal fan (I have two full size Marshals that I've run in stereo using a chorus) and was going to go that way with a small practice amp but the Roland Micro Cube just blew the comparable small Marshal away.

I own a fender strat, epiphone Zakk Wylde custom Les Paul, and I used to have a BC Rich Warlock. Love the strat, love the epiphone, but I hated everything about the Warlock except the way it looked. It was black with 24 frets but the action on it was horrible. The humbuckers weren't all that good, it was hard to hit pitched harmonics. If you have the loot for the gibson go for it, but if you wanna save liek 4000 bucks just get the eppi, its awesome. If you like metal and stuff like Black Label Society and all the bands oyu mentioned you'll love it. Hope that helped.
