I think that my hotmail account and my ebay account were tampered with recently by a hacker that or my hotmail account just got deleted somehow or ebay is just fucking with me.
But in the case that it is hackers, I have a message to anyone on this site or the entire world, and some members may disagree with me and some may agree, but I think that we should have an organization devoted to vigilante style justice that goes out and targets in a fatal fashion anyone who malicously attacks another person's computer.

Jail for the serious hackers is a solution and maybe community service for the hackers who are not harming anyone. Killing is not the solution to this problem or any other one except when it involves people who commit cold blooded crimes of violence.

They should kill them, but they shouldn't have to cost the state shit-loads of debts though. Kill them the cheap way. Long live the guillotine !!! Or even better, the plain sword like way before that. A guillotine itself takes up too much expenses to be worth it of the worhtless self of that hacker.

I don't mean to play Devil's Advocate, but its necessary in the point I'm going to make-

We need hackers. Without them theres no incentive to create stronger, more protected systems and databases, and virus protection software. The government uses them all the time. At our level its an annoyance, when it happens to them its a crime (in their opinion). Granted, its not fair how chump-change hackers at the public level are let of the hook sometimes, but what are you going to do?

If these hackers don't want to get caught they should cover their tracks. You can tell a real amateur from a professional in the clues they leave behind. A professional leaves no evidence and no way to track them. These other goof balls however are just waiting to be arrested and tried.

I don't remember the exact statistics, but I believe some 60-75% of all hack jobs (as of the last few years at the public level) are committed by newbies who don't know what the hell they are doing beyond how to get in to a system. Hackers these days are getting younger and younger and they're starting off at a younger age, thinking its cool to be a hacker. So when a kid is caught how should he/she be tried? As an adult? Whats your opinion on this? Keep in mind the young punk probably didn't have the capacity to do any real harm anyways, he's probably just snooping.

In the end, is hacking cool? Morally, no, its not cool. Literally, yes it is cool. Because afterall, it gives you the power to do whatever you want with anyone online. Hackers often think of themselves as gods because of what they can do. And in a way, they do own us digitally, and they are to be feared in alot of cases, because they can clean your online finances out and leave you bankrupt. They can tap into virtually any aspect of your life. If a computer is connected to a part of your personal business in any way, thats all they need, no matter where they are.

I was once facinated about hacking, and a friend of mine is a pretty good hacker and was willing to teach me. But after looking at all I'd have to learn just so I'd do nothing with it (since I wouldn' actually hack anything, its just for namesake), it was pointless.

Some hackers are "assholes" as you put it, some however make the system work in the greater scheme of things. They keep it on it's toes and keep it advancing. It all keeps the system from becoming complacent. Its just a shame when we, the public, get caught in the middle of it and feel the pinch and damage.

Hackers are a necessary evil in turning the wheels of the system. Does it mean I agree with it? Hell no. I'm just taking it for what it is- an almost symbiotic relationship.

So we need hackers...if we didn't have them who would protect us from the hackers? I know your point but it just sounded funny when put that way. 😀
I am reminded of Mr. Gate's speech about how Microsoft's security holes made it a better OS... 😛

Oh Bill Gates is a slack-jawed digital ******! His idea of making a better system is like gluing wood on a dashboard instead of getting the electrical system of the car right! 😛

Still I almost wish I was a hacker and could know when somebody messed with my system, because then I would seek and destroy there computer, we're talking absolute annihilation. Exploding hardware.

My friend could really help you then. He almost got in trouble with the feds one time.

I'm not in favor of crackers. Cracker is a term to referrence at malicious hackers. A cracker is a criminal like a robber, swindler or any similar. Commonly a hacker is a computer/systems wizard, a person than is able to violate security sistems only for the pleasure of do it, not a criminal because they only have fun with that, they don't stole, get any profits or damage any final user.

heck, my friends in high school were hackers. every wonce and a while i dream of building a devastating virus that doesn't spread, to infect the comps of butt holes i meet on the net.

Well no one in their right mind would be in favor of crackers. Thats just a given.

EDIT:

I brought this topic up as a topic of conversation on another forum, and I was reminded of the three levels of hackers in our society:

"Black Hat Hackers: Internet Terrorists. Cause the most trouble with hackers today.

Grey Hat Hackers: Not as bad as black hat, but can still be potentially dangerous. Mostly pull internet pranks with their skills.

White Hat Hackers: The good guys. Working to find ways to improve our systems to combat black and grey hats."

Black hats are obviously the governments concern, since they wouldn't hit us, we're not worth it to them.

Greys are our problem, with Whites being the guys working for both the government and the public.

I believe (if it's so your instance) than you were attacked by a cracker, not a hacker, because none hacker would close your e-mail account or your membership of ebay, so this question needs a fix.

Well, I know somebody who has an awesome virus, and if you want A good one, try looking up how to make A Voltage Virus, it would literally cause his motherboard to MELT. Remember, you didn't get this from me.
