I have seen the show eight times now (yes, I am a little obsessed) and there has been some kind of tickling in every performance I have seen and it seems like more and more is happening each time...
Most often it happens just before "I Believe in Love," the big song introducing the main female character, Sheila. Sheila is brought out on the shoulders of two of the "tribe" with her arms high in the air. Berger, one of the main male leads comes up from behind her and goes after her side. Kinda funny since he does it just before she is about to sing.
The best tickle I've seen involved these two characters also. During many songs the cast members mime sexual acts on stage. Once during the opening song of the second act ("The Electric Blues"), Berger, who had already mounted Sheila, started tickling her ribs. She spasmed around for a second, then put her hands down to stop him. Then Berger took her hands and, keeping with the beat of the song, slowly moved them above her head. He pinned them both there with one hand and went back to her ribs for a good ten seconds. She went back to spasming and kicking. If it was acted, it was well done.
I just saw it tonight. Berger was being played by the understudy who wasn't as tickle happy, but there were several rib pokes from other cast members that either weren't there before or that I just hadn't picked up on.
I already love the show - this has been an added bonus!
