Harvest of Suffering - Contest 2008

I was originally going to release this some time later on, but with me just hearing of the art contest and its deadline extension, I thought I'd post it just for the hell of it.

There was going to be a comic to preclude this picture explaining how the girls get into this torturous predicament. Once again, Dr. Darang's out for the Chimp after his failure in his previous attempt that involved his nieces. However, with Darang being the evil genius he is, has designed a new machine, which he might have used on his nieces as well. Scarlett Terra mentioned this in her brief captivity in London. Darang calls this machine "Harvest": A multi-person bondage device which can analyse a victim's ticklish suffering by scanning their hands and turn that into an energy resource, "harvesting" if you will.

Darang, with the help of Scarlett, would kidnap 5 girls friendly with the Chimp and his band: Ana-Lea, Robi, Lauren, Shelee and a girl known as The Mystery Female (the latter two are recently debuting characters). The girls were together to meet the Chimp before they were ambushed, and he would come later to see that Darang left a calling card. The 5 of them make up half of the amount of girls needed to power the machine. And from the looks of things, one of them has already been thoroughly analysed...

Now that the story's done, might as well take a look at the picture. 😉

hmm the expressions are great...those brushes look like killer instruments on their ticklish underarms..and cats..i can vouch for the tongue of a cat being one of the most ticklish sensations used on the sole of a helpless, vulnerable lee...like the gag effect also..and the colors are terrific..

Great pic GC, I love it. The bondage is great, very restrictive, and I love how their arms are in those holes, also I love the ball gags. And of course I love their feet and the toe-bondage. Robi's my fav in this pic, but she's one of my favorite chars of yours in general, I like what she's wearing on her arms too.

I'm wondering who the pair of feet on the left belong to though haha.

Okay, here is what I like about the picture:

I simply adore the set up. The mechanical, robotic feel to the whole setup is very well done. One of my favorite aspects is the computer screens, detailing their ticklish weakpoints, as well as outlining their profiles and their time remaining. The feet are simply gorgeous, and as hard as it is to keep feet appearing while covered in a coating, you have pulled it off brilliantly. The licking hounds are nicely drawn, and the brushes are amazing. The bondage is perfect, with soft lining on both the ankles and the arms. The arms completely restrained and removed from view shows their helplessness, while the toe tying is subtle and doesn’t clutter the image. The sheer number of lees is breathtaking, and the hint that there are even more along the line in equally dire straits is tantalizing.

Here is what turned me off:

My one and only problem, the gags. While I do realize a lot of people enjoy gag images, I have to say, I really despise gags. They tend to give the lees a tortured suffering expression. I know, I know, it seems silly to complain about suffering in a threat titled, “Harvest of Suffering,” but one of the appealing things about tickling to me is that no matter how much the lee hates to be tickled, and is greatly suffering, they still look like they’re having a good time. The cute laughing expression is vital to my enjoyment of a good tickle picture, and sadly, this picture utterly lacks it.

Now, the purpose of this comment is to highlight how amazing this image is drawn and provide my own personal criticisms. While I usually avoid posting comments on images that I don’t completely adore, I found a lot in this drawing for me to appreciate. The fact that such a simple thing prevented me from truly enjoying it inspired me to post. I know many people prefer gags and pained expressions. I’m just voicing my own opinion.

Papi: Robi wears a kind of long sleeve thing that only goes across the back. Not sure what they're called, but they leave her underarms out there. The girl on the left is just someone random.

Ilohnoh: If I had bigger resources and time, I would have fit all 10 of the girls and the whole "Harvest" machine in view...

mirthgoblin: I gotta be honest, your reply is a lot more valued than poorly constructed criticism or a generic "Great picture, thanks for posting" message (get too many of those in the TMF), because at least you looked like you paid a lot of attention to it. Not all pics have to contain parts that you like or don't like. I just thought that the ball gags added to the torment because that's one more uncomfortable thing they have to deal with. Glad you liked it anyway.

Wanted to mention to people that this was inspired partially by scavenger's classic Military Experiment picture, shock's technological themes (great to see him back) and some of the ticklepalace Yahoo! Group that has barefoot women in stocks and usually ballgagged.

Good, but...

It's a good concept, and well-executed for the most part, but I'm going to dissent from the "OMG this is great!" and pick on a couple of points.

On the good side, I like the numbering, and the display giving the "vital statistics" of each victim. More generally it's well-drawn, with a good use of perspective, lots of details, and an overall air of being a diabolically-effective tickle-device.

On the bad side...

First, the idea of having arms restrained and out of the way is a good one, but the actual position of the arms is awkward. Worse, it looks awkward to my eye, as in "the victims are in misery as much from the strain and pain that their arm bondage puts on them as from the tickling."

A second and more subtle flaw is that the prominently displayed feet are too much alike. It would greatly improve the drawing if each pair of feet had been made slightly different in size and shape rather than being clones of each other.

A third flaw is that while the business ends of the brushes are well-drawn, their source is ??? - they seem to be coming out of nothingness, not attached to anything.

In the end I have to call it a great drawing with great flaws.

tower98: Thanks. Took me a while, but when you have the motivation to do something like this, then it doesn't take that long as long as you have the time.

sablesword: I'll address your observations. And thanks for paying attention, too...
1: I observed photos on the arm position and I think it looks awkward from the angle it's viewed, but it's fine normally.
2. Funnily enough, the girls are fairly similar in height and size, and all have pretty feet. They look alike being in that bondage.
3. The brushes retract from the walls and fold away.

I wouldn't say they were "great" flaws. Great flaws would ruin the whole thing.

On the arm position: It still looks awkward to my eye. If the forearms were angled in so that the wrists cross behind the top of the head, it would be OK, but it looks like the forearms go back parallel to each other - which would tend to put strain on them.

On the feet: I let it pass that the girls are all the same height. But are their feet so similar that they all wear the same shoe-size?

On the brushes: I'm not seeing how they're coming out of the wall.

As for the size of the flaws, the arm position was one of the first things I noticed - "ow, that looks painful." The size of the feet being all the same, and (especially) the non-origin of the brushes I'll admit were more "look carefully and find things to criticize" things.
