coating feet with a large amount of lubricant - oil, sanitiser, whatever, then putting nylons over that to "seal in the juices".

It would seem to me that the application of nails would be most effective.
 
The closest thing I've ever done do that would be every now and then using lotion on my feet before I go to bed and then wearing socks over them. Read it somewhere that it keeps them healthy and soft. I think it was on a Burt's Bees Wax foot creme tube. Seemed like a good idea and so far it's worked.
