Have any ghosts and goblins come to your door?

I've lived in this apartment for eight years now and never had a single kid show up. My last apartment I had a handful one year. That custom seems to have died off, or is at least on life support. Kind of sad in a way, but that's the way things are.

Nope, not a single one. Makes sense actually as my complex is full of immigrants who don't practice Halloween.

Me and my GF are watching The Legend of Sleepy Hollow currently (paused to stretch and get some Halloween cupcakes ^~).

None out my way, I live to far in the woods nowadays....LOL

There are woods in NY? 😛

Yeah, that does make sense. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, what a classic America tale. Take it easy on the cupcakes now. 😛

No ghosts/goblins/what have you here. But, since I've lived in an apartment complex I can't remember ever having trick or treaters.

This year I may have had 10 show up.... much fewer than in past years (I'm in a house). So I have a bowl full of candy left over. Kind of sad, in a way. The kids could have gone around as Hillarious or the Grump.

Haha! Indeed there is. A little different from where I grew up but NY does have it's wooded areas.

Have you had any trick or treaters show up Bugman?

An old friend of mine, long deceased, owned some land in the Finger Lakes region. Never been there but I remember seeing some pictures. Beautiful country.

Nope, not a single one. I buy a small bag of candy every year just in case. Tomorrow I'll give it to a neighbor or take it to the office. They can set it out in a bowl for whoever wanders in. I sure don't need it. 😉

Nor do I. For that matter I've lived in houses and duplexes in the past and never had anyone come to the door.

It is sad. Seems like an iconic tradition is fading away. Gosh, when I was a kid in the 60s going door to door every Halloween was a big deal. We used to meet up with other groups and exchange information on who was giving out the best stuff. But I grew up in a pretty small town and it was easy to cover a lot of ground.

Haha, when I first read the abbreviated version of this question on the main forum, I first thought it was about the video game of the same name 😛

We don't have Halloween in France, nor do we have it here in China. But every year the English-speaking expat communities often organize some safe "door-to-door" trick or treating for the kids, and other various activities. Some of my friends already have children, and the previous weekend was the occasion to throw a costume party. It is always a nice throwback to our childhood to play around and behave silly, once a year.

It is sad to hear that the custom is dying out, but funny when you think that it is still alive in the oddest of places. I guess being far away from home triggers a "back-to-the-roots" kind of reflex. I know I have never enjoyed reading French literature more than after I settled down in China, lol ^_^

Well, you might all be slightly relieved to know that at least it's still going strong here! We didn't get a whole helluva lot of trick-or-treaters this year, but we got a few sizable parcels of kiddos. It helps that we had full-sized candy bars this year, which the kids fricking loved (apparently, it works out cheaper to buy a few boxes of full-sizers from Sam's Club than to buy the usual bags of "fun-sized" candy).

Nope. Hardly surprising in an apartment building in New York City--nobody would let their kids ring strangers' door bells.

In NYC, everyone can hear you scream... but no one cares

So, what I'm gleaning from all this is, New York apartment complexes are sad, depressing places to live... X'D

I am quite happy here. Neighbors respect each others privacy. There are people that I have recognized in the elevator for years whose names I do not know and have no need to know.

But: Nobody would send their child through the building ringing doorbells for candy. You only need one nutcase in the building to have a tragedy.

I wasn't at home for much of the Halloween weekend, but as far as I could tell I didn't receive any visitors or notice anyone in the area dressed-up.

I think a large proportion of my neighbourhood have no interest in the occasions as it's not something their culture/country has ever celebrated.

There is one wonderful window display which gave me a fright as it lit up when I walked past.

I can take it or leave it - I am much more a fan of Bonfire Night, so am very excited about this coming weekend.

You must be talking about Guy Fawkes Night. 🙂
