With Christmas one week away.. my question is..

Have you ever experienced a White Christmas?

By White, I mean.

Where it actually snowed on Christmas?

I remember my only White Christmas as it were yesterday, because of the circumstances.

Most forum members who know me, know that I used to live in Lancaster, PA for many years, before moving to New York City.

On, the first Christmas I belonged to the forum.. 2002.

We had.. eight inches of heavy , wet snow on Christmas Day, that knocked out our power for nine hours.

We were supposed to have a beautiful turkey dinner for Christmas.

Alas, with no power, and no oven.. we had.. sandwiches lol.

That is the only Christmas I can ever remember where it actually snowed.

This Christmas, NYC is supposed to be very warm, with perhaps some rain.

Even though one week is a long time away, there is supposedly not going to be a White Christmas here this year.

Living in Colorado, yes, quite a few of them.

Growing up on the Gulf Coast, I've had several white Christmases, since winter fog was quite common. As for Christmases with snow on the ground, though, I've had three.

In Maryland, and I'm sure I've had a few where snow was on the ground, but can't recall any snowstorms on Christmas. I love snow though, so I'm wishing for one!

I was in Pennsylvanee (near Harrisburg) from 1972 to 1974. I'm pretty sure we had snow at Christmas at least one of those 3 years; maybe not actually snowing, but there was snow. Sure as heck none down here in Atlanta.

I remember building a snowman one Christmas, London early 80's, may have been 81.

The last time, we had it bad snow wise was December 2010, although that was early December not Christmas.

When I lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, there was snow on Christmas three years out of the four that I was there. 😀

One Christmas, when I was a teenager, and lived in CT, I can remember snow falling late on Christmas night. Although I didn't look at the clock, so I don't recall if it was actually "Christmas" or after midnight on December 26th.

As mentioned previously, 2002, is the only time I ever recall snow falling during the day on Christmas Day.

The forecast for NYC on www.weather.com is.

Sunday night into Monday. '

"Rain and Snow"

It will be interesting to see if NYC has a "White Christmas"

Well, Al Roker said it would snow in NYC on Christmas...... yeh, we'll see.

Right now there is heavy rain in NYC.

The forecast on www.weather.com

For Christmas looks to be just windy and cold, but probably dry.

It's a week away, but some forecasts are saying there could be a white New Year, with snow just before New Years.

We'll see how that turns out.

I recall having a thick blanket of snow on two Christmases - one probably when I was around 9/10 so approx. early 1990s and the other probably around 10 years after that. However, on both of those occasions I think the snow had actually fallen before Christmas Day and had remained in place.

We had a lot of snow here a couple of weeks ago, but it lasted only one day - it was certainly very enjoyable for those who like to get out and take photos, play about in the snow, admire it for what it is.

The weather forecast for today in my part of Upstate N.Y.:

Snow and blowing snow expected. Plan on slippery Road [sic] conditions, including during Holiday [sic] travel on Monday. In addition, areas of poor visibility are expected. Tree branches could fall as well. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected.

Fortunately, most people here get around on one-horse open sleighs (camo-colored, of course, not red). Except for the rich people, who have snowmobiles with compartments for beer, or meth, much more convenient than in the olden days:

As for dodging tree branches today, bring 'em on; no more of a challenge than running across thinly-frozen ponds ("Hold my beer...").

We only had a skiff of snow here this morning.

I can remember White Christmas's but it was several years since the last good snow on Christmas Day.

Today is cold, and very windy here in NYC. The weather is dry.

The last snow I remember on Christmas Day was the big snowstorm in 2002 when I lived in Lancaster that knocked out the power.

Otherwise, I don't recall any significant snow since.
