My grandmothers' sister is dying-she's been sick for a very long time, but she's lost ten pounds in the last week and they're calling in hospice. Granma and I are leaving Saturday, hopefully to get there before she passes, and to attend her funeral.

Prayers and thoughts would be appreciated--dammit, I just got BACK here from Christmas >< I miss you guys again already!

My thoughts are with you, this time of year always brings back memories, the older one gets the more of these situations crop up till you start to think about your own mortality. look after grandmother and take care, a lot of people on tt will be thinking and praying so you won't exactly be on your own.

Losing a relative is never easy. Even having one who I wasn't terribly fond of die hurt.

I'll be thinking of you and your situation (virtual hug).

It's good that somebody will be there with her at this time. I hope that everything is uncomplicated. Your family will be in my prayers.

I'm glad, for her comfort's sake, that hospice is caring for her...and that you and Gram will be there to add more comfort...it's the greatest gift you can offer someone at the end of their life...

All of the love in the world to you and your family during these intensely challenging times...*bearhugs*

Oy, I feel a lil embarrassed^__^;; false alarm, they put her in hospice because she could get better care--she's extremely depressed and refuses to eat much, we hope that the hospice can put in a feeding tube. But her death isn't imminate--she will probably die in the next few months, and I'll have to go then, but not this week.

hmm well i hope hospice can help..we used hospice with mom, however they couldn't do much since she had already signed papers refusing all treatment..including a feeding tube..anyway hon pm me anytime..she sounds a bit like my mom..who well i won't go into the details again..not a good ending for mom..but maybe hospice can be of help..and remember this..hospice will take care of a patient for up to two years..they don't have to be imminently dying..

Hospice is one of the best interventions of the last half-century in medical care. The difference it makes in the lives of our end-stage patients and, more importantly, their families, is astounding.

She's in good hands, Karen.
