This is a new reality show thats airing on Fox.

It consists of two teams (blue and red) of aspiring professional gourmet cooks working under a master chef whom is basically the Simon Cowell of this show. At the end of each episode someone is eliminated.

In a way, this is more insulting than saying your singing isn't any good. These people obviously think they can cook and are trying their damndest and this guy (Gordon Ramsey I believe is his name) takes their dishes when they're finished, tells them whats wrong with it, and then throws it in the trash right in front of them and forces them to start all over again.

He then repeatedly looms over these poor cooks and tests their emotional limits insulting and cursing at them and their food, because, in his words, he says the harder he is on them the better cooks they will be.

As a reality show, its definitely something different. So far theres only been two episode and the second aired tonight. I actually want to see what happens just for the hell of it.

Has anyone else seen this yet?

Why are you telling us this? I havent watched reality tv really since the first Survivor. It's a whole genre of television that should be voted off the air.

I don't watch reality tv either. I thought it was something different, worth mentioning in the very least. I don't expect a conversation out of it.

You too huh? Thats the only reason I watched it, because of him. Its the same and only reason I watch American Idol, so I can see Simon Cowell deliver the verbal Smackdown.

But this guy is potentially worse. He actually curses at them and throwing the food you worked hard on to prepare correctly,in the garbage and being cursed at must be personally humiliating and morale breaking. And its different from Idol because they have to work together and rat eachother out and degenerate as people day to day. And all just to please this man they hate.

I don't live on the misery of others, but seeing this was funny.

I also like your bit at the end there. Yes, this is a thread for Hell's Kitchen. If its not to someone's liking they can post a different thread for different ones. Since I'm being show specific it needs to be handled differently.

Reality shows are all bullsh*t. Real people don't act or look like those goofy contestants. I think the nation's collective IQ loses a point every time a new reality show appears.

Maybe so, but at the end of the day, sometimes I don't want to follow an equally stupid and just as contrived plotline from some sitcom or otherwise acceptable tv show. At least this is an attempt to portray a contest.

Watching the news these days isn't any better. I don't want to see whose anorexic these days in Hollywood, what highspeed chase there is, or what some idiot got arrested for. And thats real reality. Its far more boring that reality shows, honestly.

I agree with all of the above. "Reality" television is as unreal as it gets, but most of today's "comedies" are just as dehumanising as any Fear Factor episode. The local news is little more than a propoganda machine for politicians and major advertisers -- I have even heard of stories being pulled off the air for being contrary to the wishes of station sponsors!

The only televison that I can bear to watch is PBS, classic TV reruns like MASH, or the very rare non-cable sports events. I love the Internet because it offers far more choice than even cable TV.

I actually stay up late some nights just so I can watch shows that I like, like MASH, Married With Children and such.

Hell's Kitchen has it's place. It gives me something amusing to look at during that time slot. It shows me a man yelling and cursing at people for not cooking something perfectly and treating them like trash.

Contrived or not, for 30-minutes to an hour thats entertainment. My IQ has not gone down for watching this because I'm fully capable of watching quality programming which I do.

If I or anyone was one of those yupps or couch patatoes with no life, sitting around "watchin' ma stories" smelling my own farts then, only then is it truely pathetic.

One show, "reality tv" or not, is just one show. I think when people are being sarcastic its wasting time too. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Simple as that. Don't want to hear about it, don't.

EDIT:

Furthermore, as it was subtly implied by myself and another, I would appriciate that you don't ruin this thread for people who may have an interest in it. Make your own thread or keep it to yourself.

You don't enforce the rules here: I do. I have not violated the "be polite" rule, although your snide comment did 🙂

I have as much right as any member to participate in any discussion. You know very well that thread hijacking is a hallowed tradition here. Live with it.

I'm not talking to you Val. I'm talking about anyone who would come in here just to blast reality tv. I don't care. This thread isn't for that, and comments like that can quickly put down this type of thread or discourage people or make them feel stupid for posting on topic. Thats what we don't want. This thread is pro Hell's Kitchen. I shouldn't have to label threads like that, its silly. If people don't like it they don't have to post. They can create their own threads for this type of issue.

If you weren't talking to me, to whom did you address that snarky comment? Mine was the post right above yours.

The program, as you described it, sounded like typical "reality" TV crap. You yourself even compared it to American Idol in the very first post, so it's a bit late to cry "foul" for people's mentioning other shows.

Ness and I simply stated seperately that we have no interest in watching this show because it sounds too much like other, similar television series. It's hardly off-topic to compare TV shows from the same genre; I don't know why you are making such a big deal about the thread. Nobody is being barred from praising the show.

"You" was a general term in this instance. "You" could be anyone, any potential anyone who would post as I said.

As far as me crying foul, I'm not. I only mentioned American Idol to compare Simon Cowell to this Gordon Ramsey. Anyone who knows anything about these two by now will understand the significance of that, whether its important or not.

Finally, thats fine. I'm just suggesting that more than that would not be necessary. You've reached a perfectly acceptable happy medium. I'm speaking in forethought to discourage anti reality tv posts in this particular thread. That in and of itself is a detractor and would be better served as it's own thread. I only do this because I half expected people to react a certain way.

I honestly would split the thread if I thought that it were becoming unreasonably off topic, but I think that in order to properly discuss a particular TV show, it is necessary to compare and contrast it with others of its genre.

The people who have made skeptical comments about reality TV in this thread are simply stating that we have found other, similar programs to be disappointing. (I had high hopes for the first Big Brother! lol) This show sounds, from its description, to be simply a cross between the short-lived CBS "Restaurant" show and American Idol.

It would make the thread much more interesting if you or another fan of the show would try to "sell" us on why we should watch it. For example, are the contestants mainly the "he-man" and "stripper"-types characteristic of other reality shows, or if they look like everyday people? Do they spend most of the show flirting and making passes at each other like on the other shows, or do they really focus on cooking? If the host is a barbarian like Simon Crowell, what traits does he have that differ from other unpleasant TV hosts, and why should we watch him?

If we asked everyone to take negative or slightly off-topic opinions to another thread, the board would become swamped by many similar threads all discussing the same topic, making it difficult and inconvenient for users to follow the subject. That's why we would rather not interfere too much, as long as there is no overt trolling or spam.

I hope that this rectifies any miscommunication that may have occured.

Very best regards,

Sorry...but you can't create a thread and then dictate that people are only allowed to post positive things about the subject. Nor can you presume to tell people when to start new threads. I'm sorry if threads branching into other discussions bothers you...but there is no rule that states "You must not irritate Vlad or go off topic in threads he starts."

There are a lot of hideously stupid people in the world. Drooling, empty-headed, mind bogglingly stupid people. This probably attributes to the success and popularity of shows that feature verbal and psychological abuse of it's cast while it's passed off as entertainment. This isn't some innovative new program, it's more reality crap in a new setting.
here's some abuse of people who want to be a singer
here's some abuse of people who want to be a model
here's some abuse of people who want to be an assistant
here's some abuse of people who want to be a chef

Wow...There's some serious 5 star entertainment.

Ok, I will atempt to get back on topic. Who else found it very funny that customers ordered pizza and had it delivered to the resturant
I've wanted to do that more than once! Reminds me of the Olive Garden that just opened near me. People waited on line for 2 HOURS to get in. It's OLIVE GARDEN and there's another one 30 minutes down the road!
The pizza thing IS funny. 75% chance it was the producer's idea but they get 10 points for a good joke LOL.

i saw the first episode but i wasnt able to catch the second but i like it, i mean the guys an f'n terror but i find the show to be very good
