Hi guys,

Slight problem with my computer, for some reason, winamp will not play .wmv files, and neither will windows media player. Real player won't either. For some files, with winamp, it will only play sound, and I'll get no visual. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Please help as the only files I can play are .rm ones and I only have a couple!

Ahh, the pesky WinAmp strikes again! I've had that problem but it can be solved so don't worry!

1. UnInstall WinAmp as much as possible!
2. Go to google and type in "windows Media Download" and go to themicrosoft site! (i would tell you the site bu ti forgot! probably www.microsoft.com)
3. Download it!
4. You'll be able to play .wmv files!

If that doesn't work then i'm stumped!

Security Advisory on Winamp

ADVISORIES: Yesterday (25-08-2004), K-OTik.COM Security Survey Team reported to Secunia that a so called "Zero-day" exploit for Winamp is circulating on the Internet. After testing the issue, Secunia was able to confirm that the exploit was working. Using Internet Explorer, this can be exploited to automatically compromise a user's system. The vulnerability is caused due to insufficient restrictions on Winamp skin zip files. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary code on a user's system. The exploit is very basic, and allows even less-skilled "Script Kiddies" to change the exploit to do whatever they would like it to do. Currently, the vendor has not issued a patch for this.
