Well, I started coloring this one yesterday and ended yesterday. About midway through the coloring process I noticed that my choice of colors (which were purely coincidental) starting looking like the color motiffs that make up the character Mara Jade. A coincidence, but a happy one. Also, you'll notice (though it's obscured) the Imperial symbol as the background.

I thought that the color of it went well with the other colors and the design worked for this picture. I'm not sure however if I intend to keep this character as a rogue Jedi, or a Sith. I'm leaning more towards her being a Sith, but given future characters (some of whom will definitely be Jedi), she may become neutral or even allign herself with the Jedi. We'll have to wait and see.

Basically she's being hesitant to deliver a death blow to an enemy she's bested. As a Sith, to hesitate is very telling of her character. Why does she hestitate? More to come...

This is an original character which is of course © copyright to me.

All other themes are © copyright Lucasfilm.

Enjoy. ^___^

Awesome work. I really like the colors. Also, the glow effect of the lightsaber on her skin and clothing is really superb.

Thanks alot Kenjisan, I'm really happy with it too. Its my first time drawing a saber blade so I was a little worried at first that it wouldn't come out right in the end. While its just part of the picture, it is an important part and where I'm guessing alot of the natural attention is going to be placed.

I took a big risk in finally drawing this character however. I haven't drawn anything in a while. Fortunately I don't have any artistic rust on me. ^^

Also, yay for me for my 2000th post here! ^__^

Mmm, I don't think so. I know what I'm doing. Thanks for nothing. 🙂

Well, I'm the artist and I know what I'm doing. I'm my own critic, and if I felt that something was wrong or needed to be better I'd change it. Considering this is also a style (which even some professionals have used, positioning of the nose, mouth etc) theres nothing 'flawed' about it. I guess its awkward because this would be the first time (to my recollection) that you right off the bat said something without supporting it in any way, and also didn't have anything good to say.

If you simply don't like the way it looks, then thats fine, because thats your opinion. But I think I'm in a position to say I know better than you about it.

Everyone's mommy says their special. 😛

Actually, I think I see what he means. The nose looks a little to...upturned? The distance between and size of the eyes makes her face look like it's turned at an angle that would have her nose jutting outward a bit more...well I think anyway. I kind of like it though. The effect of a nose that looks like it's pressed up against something. It makes her look cute. 😛 And I love that flame effect on the lightsaber blade. For a second there I thought you might be working on some kind of special tickling-feather-lighsaber. 😛 And if you weren't before...hehe, 😛

As CE said above, the shape of the nose is purely style when is comes manga sytle art. If the picture was supposed to be anatomically correct(which manga faces rarely are) then I think the critisism would be valid. The nose looks fine. Keep it up CE! 🙂

Thanks you guys. And thank you again Kenjisan for pointing out what I already said to Dr. Ticklefesto and now Kjiron any anyone else that may be thinking the same way.

To the untrained eye it would appear wrong, illplaced, or unproportioned or alligned with the rest of the face and the features, but its not, as we just said. As hard as it may be to believe, it IS an actual style in anime/manga and I've seen it used on several occasions on both the amateur and professional levels. This is considered proportionate for the style being used. It takes an artist to really undertstand it and appriciate the effects such styles can achieve.

So I agree with Kenjisan that a critique of the nose and/or face inparticular is unnecessary as this is to be attributed to a style rather than a mistake.

Trust me guys, if this was a mistake, I'm a good enough artist to own up to it and simply correct it (if need be). Only theres nothing to correct here as far as that goes. I hope you understand I'm not discouraging critques in whole, I'm just making you aware of something that cannot be attributed to a mistake or error, or shortcoming.

Finally, like Kenjisan said, anima/manga is often disproportionate anyways, or to quote him exactly not being "anotomically correct". It would have to be for things to fit the way they do, being anotomically incorrect that is.

If this were any other style other than japanimation then it might have not been so easy for me to claim it was a matter of style as clearly it would have been a mistake if it was say...a Marvel character or it was a style I created, wherein theres room thats its possible I'm lying and don't want to own up to the shortcoming or mistake. But like I said, that wouldn't happen as I'm big enough to own up to such things.

I still appriciate the otherwise positive feedback. Thanks again. ^^

And it's my opinion which I'm allowed to preach.

Plus, I'm a artist too, bud.
It's not like I'm some random bloke who has no experience with art. 😛

Yeah, I got your point the first time. And your experience is obviously not my experience, since you didn't know about this, and I was just pointing it out to you.

Well, its not crooked, and it is artistic, just as artistic as anything else that could be considered art. So you respect nothing here. You didn't come in here in a positive attitude about it either.

You just need to accept that japanimation is different from more traditional styles. It seems to me you have a narrow-minded view on the genre, and THAT doesn't make drawing this way flawed. It also makes it less likely to accept something you're not used to.

You know, if you don't like the picture for whatever reason, why do you continue to post? In reality, you're keeping this thread updated and on the top. So actually, you're helping something you don't care for get more and more attention, and you're doing me a service. 😛

It's quite simple, my duckie.
Because I can. 😀

And since when did I say I didn't like the picture?
I just said her nose was messed up.

Well, for the record, you never said you did like it. If you did/do you obviously didn't want to show it for whatever reason, and thats what was suspicious to begin with, as it would be a first from you to act this way (to my knowledge). You only aimed to critisize it. But whatever. I know what I know as a fact, you think what you think as an opinion. I've got proof, you've got nothing. I'm satisified with that.

I grow wary of this jibber jabber. Unless you have something positive to say, I won't be responding. Later.

Sorry for not blindly praising your work like everyone else, laddie.😱
