Hey Gaming Nerds: Star Wars Old Republic Preview

I hate video games but this does look cool; hopefully it's more than wookies and Boba-fet looking dudes talking in a hallway forever like the other Old Republic game my husband has

OK, first of all that was fucking awesome. If the latest three movies had a tenth of that coolness, george lucas wouldn't need so many bodyguards.

Second, of course that bears no resemblance at all to what playing the game will look/be like.

That said, though, I've become pretty cynical about pre-release video game hype and even still I'm really psyched about this game, and optimistic about its potential. Bioware, the developer, has a track record of one home run after another and though some of what they're doing in this game is pretty far off the beaten track of the typical MMO, if you're going to give any game company the benefit of the doubt, this one has to top the list.

And it was a brilliant choice of time periods. When Star Wars Galaxies tanked, a lot of people said one of the problems was that it was set between the first trilogy and the second one, which meant there were almost no jedi at all, but in the Old Republic the galaxy was teeming with jedi and sith around every corner.

I agree that this is an awesome time period for a single player game, But when you talk about an MMO, I am very happy that there weren't Jedi around for Glaxies (at least, when it first started). Jedi are supposed to be the most skilled fighters in the galaxy, able to do incredible things with their force power. Now, imagine a Jedi among people with blasters, and vibroswords. There would be a HUGE imbalance.

But for this game, I say, the more lightsabers the better! WOO!! This is a game I would get a new laptop for so I can play it.

ZOMG, that looks uber l33t.

a few things:

1. the light side drew lightsabers first... that's like an instant loss.

2. there was supposed to be only 2 sith. Apprentice and Master.

3. a single jedi could have just used the force to push the plane out of the way or create a force wall or something.

4. though not very light side like, why didnt they just use the force to crush the sith?

Point 3: Jedi are Jedi; they aren't all powerful.

Point 4: Because the Sith could use the force to protect themselves? It'd become a sort of a no-win situation fairly quickly.

Good points. Though for point 3 I still believe that all the Jedi could have stopped the plane or better yet pushed it out the hole once it stopped. Also a no-win situation is better than getting pwned by sith.

Good points. Though for point 3 I still believe that all the Jedi could have stopped the plane or better yet pushed it out the hole once it stopped.

One could easily argue that all the Sith could have used their own powers to counter the Jedi's attempt at messing with the ship.
