Hey Drew
It was a superb performance by Arthur Lee last night, and I was literally standing 10 ft away from him! After a band called The Seeds kicked the gig off, Arthur entered into a HUGE applause and he kicked off with "Live and Let Live" and ended "Maybe The Times...", playing all of the original Forever Changes album, as well as classics like "Your Mind and We...", "Stephanie Knows", "Signed D.C.", "Orange Skies" as well as a couple new tracks and songs I'm unfamiliar with.
"You Set The Scene" was great, but Arthur came in at the wrong time at one point and had to re-start the whole song! Well, it's to be expected, with him being a '60s hippie veteran! When the set was finished, he came to touch the hands of the front row. Mine included!
Anyway, what wasn't present that night was the brass and strings section, but if it did, it would blow my socks off! I've heard "You Set The Scene" live on telly with the full arrangements and it is mind-blowing. He is playing again on April 2nd at London's Shepherds Bush Empire in Hammersmith with the aformented brass and horns section, and I might go there with some friends if I can. But overall, last night was superb, and Arthur still has that charm and charisma he had all those years ago. I gotta see that man play again!
