I know absolutely nothing about sports, least of all high school sports, but I just read something that said in CT, in high school football, if a team wins by 50 points their coach is automatically suspended for a week. Does anyone know anything about this? What is the coach supposed to do when he finds that he is clobbering the other team? Tell his guys to back it off some?

Every league has some type of blowout rule but this one's just ridiculous. Worst of all, they've actually gone through with it.

I'd hate to be a coach on the sidelines with 2 minutes left and a 55-point lead and have to tell a group of teenagers to rollover and allow a touchdown to save my ass, or better yet, have possession of the ball with a 49-point lead: "Johnny you run a post, Billy, fly down the left sideline, and Eric, you throw the ball to the other team." I'm sure that's helping these kids. What a joke.

Good article from USA Today here:

Absolutely ridiculous.

This is a good point.

And if such a rule is supposed to spare the losers' dignity, what would be more humiliating than your opponent running out of bounds on purpose?

that is a terrible rule, I must say. Down here in Texas where high-school football is truly the King of all sports, to my knowledge in 11-man football there are no limits or penalities for scoring.

A couple of weeks ago we had a score of 84-0 and it is just accepted. Obviously at some point all the starters were pulled to try to keep the score down but you can`t tell the kids that are back-ups not to try they`re hardest. You basically just run the ball up the middle everyplay.
