Hey guys.... Just figured as I didn't see any threads pertaining to hockey(aside from the Bruins congratulatory thread, and no one wants to play there) within the first couple pages I'd start one....

So who here is a big hockey fan? what teams do we cheer for? How do you feel about your teams chances this season or the plethora of huge moves/signings this off-season??

I am a DIE-HARD Habs fan... living near Toronto :disgust: I like the Cole pickup.... gives them a 2nd power forward(to go with a healthy Max Pacioretty).... the Budaj move was good... he'll play 20 solid games for us.... the one thing I HATE right now(aside from Gomez and Spacek's contracts) is their refusal to go get a big faceoff specialist for the 4th line.... I REALLY wanted Zenon Konopka... who went for a paltry 700k to the Sens... sometimes I wonder about Gauthier.....

Teams I think improved themselves the most:

L.A.
Columbus(although that Wisniewski contract is ridiculous)
Toronto(hate to say it, but Burkey made a few nice moves.... still, best case they finish 7-8th in the East.... most likely 9th-10th)
Philadelphia(people think they gave up, but they now have 4 lines who can score, as well as a great goalie.... I expect them to battle Washington for the East)
Washington(Like Philly, they finally got a goalie... and paid PENNIES... Vokoun has been one of the best in the NHL for years, and will THRIVE in Washington

The what were you thinking`s:

Florida(Seriously... that much money at all those fringe guys)
Rangers(Richards has had one-and-a-half good seasons in the last 4 years.... and the money is gross.... typical Rangers overspending)
Minnesota(Burns and Havlat for Guch and Heatley... NO THANKS... Burns is finally developing into a stud and they give him away, and then trade perennial clutch performer Havlat into headache and Mr. NO CLUTCH: Dany Heatley

Alright guys.... lemmie know what yer thinking....

Vokoun, regardless of how much, was the bargain of the year, especially in Washington. If he can hold it together post-season, you might be looking at a Stanley Cup.

Beyond that, most of the hockey talk starts up with the new season. Stay tuned!

I sure hope so, but I think the other additions that the Capitals made, Joel Ward and Roman Hamrlik are gonna help the Caps even further, Ward can hopefully break out with a looser offensive style the caps play and Hamrlik should be a good hard nosed defensive veteran that'll block shots and help out the defense even more.

Well, only slightly obvious from my signature block who I'm cheering for. I thought it was nice to see my Kings at the top of your most imporved list and I must say that I do agree. Having made the playoffs two years in a rwo after missing them for a decade, I think most, if not all, LA fans are pretty excited. Yes, we've been outed in the first round both years but, I think, fans are simpply happy they made it. I have a few co-workers who are also Kings fans and we've been discussing the latest trade situations. None of us were really on board with the Simmons/Schenn trade for Mike Richards and one of my co-workers was really pissed that they let Hanzus go, especially to the fucking Sharks of all teams???? Guess it could have been worse and they could have sent him to the Ducks (vomits in mouth a little). And then Ryan Smyth who was crying about being homesick, so they sent him back to Edmonton. I think that if we can get Dustin Penner playing the way he NEEDS to play, we might be a little better in the standings this year. Goaltending has improved VERY MUCH, which I was extremely happy to see. Quick and Bernier have done very well for LA and Bernier played MUCH better last year than the previous year; much more solid looking all around. All in all, however, we did pick up Richards and Gagne, who played together in Philly, I believe. Now we need to sign defenseman Drew Doughty to a huge, long term contract. So, those are my two cents on it. I can't wait for the start of the season!!! GO KINGS GO!!!!

I just started watching hockey...being from Minny I enjoy watching the Wild...I dont expect much from them right now, last season was enough to make me bury head in the sand. But non the less I stand by them. Id really like to see them win a Championship though.

Well Mr. OP, We have some problems....Bruins lady born and raised right here. As far as our chances, I don't know why everyone thinks we took a step back. We lost Kaberle and Ryder...that's it. Kaberle was a massive defensive failure, and his offense can be picked up by Corvo and Kampfer. Ryder was good, but he's lost a step, and Seguin is more than capable of filling his void on the wing next year. Plus, our biggest acquisition may be the guy we never lost, Marc Savard 😉

For the first time in a while my Red Wings are truly in transition. They still have their core of Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen and Lidstrom for one more year, but with the retirements of Draper, Rafalski and Osgood the young players in the organization will get their turn. They've been the best team and organization in hockey for the last 20 years however we'll find out now if they will be taking a step back or staying put towards the top.

Go Red Wings!

It's not that they will take a huge step back... although putting Pouliot in for Ryder is a mistake(but so was Ryder's contract with Dallas)... The Bruins will have the typical Cup hangover that EVERY team has and then will battle with Montreal for the NorthEast... The Bruins were only a lil better than the Habs last season and the Habs added Cole as well as a healthy Markov, Pacioretty and Gorges... that means a LOT to a team that competed with the Bruins for the division for most of last season and probably should have won their first round series(I know they didn't and the Bruins should be applauded for their ability to come back)..... All this means is that the Bruins aren't a shoe-in for the division this year and if they don't win it, they'll probably finish 4th in the conference and that is a step back... they'll still be a solid, unspectacular team in a conference full of that kind of team...
