i have lost faith in politics..i mean gesh....i believed in John Edwards...and everything he stood for...to have an affair while his wife was battling a terminal disease..i mean for god's sake...is nothing sacred???? these last three years that i discovered online...i could have cheated easily....but i didn't...i respected my marriage enough to say to myself..i could never face my husband if i ever sexually cheated on him...and i'm just an everyday person...is it too much to ask that married men/women remain faithful to their spouse??? what is with today's society...jumping into and out of bed is so damn easy it seems...not with me it's not...i have to love..i have to be in love...

i have lost all respect for Edwards and i voted for him in the primary, as he was still on my ticket...and to cheat during that crucial time period...i also have lost respect for her...my husband would be out on his ass...

Welcome to my country... were politicians steal, have sexual affairs, wash money and all other dirty jobs even before lunch 😀

He's not a real man, Izzy. A real man seeks out the battle, wins the heart of the woman and shows she is worthy to be won (John Eldredge, "Wild at Heart"). This current generation has rejected what real manhood truly is and replaced it with greed, money, sex, conquest of other men's women, sports, alcohol, etc. A real man:

(1) Rejects Passivity
(2) Lives Righteously
(3) Leads Courageously and
(4) Expects the Greater Reward (Robert Livingston, "Raising a Modern-Day Knight)

After all, what are his examples of 'manhood'? JFK and Bill Clinton, the two main standard-bearers of the Democratic Party. Neither one could keep their flies shut. We have no real men, no leaders or statesmen out there, just politicians. They could care less what happens as long as they can get elected. And anyone remember Gary Hart? (and yes...there are some on the Republican side as well, but there actions aren't glorified and smiled at as these two have been...)

The "Breck Girl" made his millions preying on OB's by suing them whenever an infant was born with Cerebral Palsy or some other birth injury. He stalked shocked and stunned parents and destroyed the careers of good doctors. He is one of the big reasons that many doctors stopped being OB's and just did gynecology alone. There were regions in the South that had no OB's because of how high their liability insurance rates went up. It happened in a town I worked in in southwestern Kentucky. Pregnant women had to drive 40+ miles to deliver their kids, thanks to John Edwards and his cronies.

The press has been sitting on this story for months, since the primaries started. If this had been someone from the other party, it would have broke on day 1. Nice to have the "mainstream" press in your back pocket.

Good for you on staying faithful. I figured you have had hundreds of potential chances to cheat on your husband, everyday, because you are female and alive. Guys are always trying to have sex with you because they have the opportunity. that is all they need. Billy Crystal said it best: "Women need a reason to have sex (in your case love); Men just need a place."(like a chat room, or sleazy hotel) That is just the way it is. I don't like it any more than you but we gotta deal with it. So suck it up and just take the compliment that guys are still trying to get with you. Its a blessing and a curse, but what wonderful cross to bear.

On a side note, I have no idea what you are talking about with Edwards, sorry. I'm sorry you lost your respect for Edwards. But that is part of living in the USA. Going from love to hate and vice versa is what politics is all about. I love the "flip-flop" concept. "[politician name] used to believe [generic political view], but now he/she believes [opposite view]." And all i can say is "Really? you mean they changed their minds after 6 years? So they are human? well they can't be politicians! that is wrong!" sorry about that, my mind wanders....

Good for you staying faithful to your hubby! :super_hap I guess this is what the country is going to: when the the going gets rough in a marriage or in life then just bail from it and move on. I remember there was a billboard in NY that advertise an attractive woman and a male then stating that if you are not happy with your relationship, then move on. I was stunned! I guess we can't all blame the media on this issue, but sometimes on the indviduals. Usually young adults and children are not able to see the example of a healthy marriage and/or how a marriage is suppose to work because of broken homes, no father/mother figure in the picture, abuse, and etc(Prime example of this). I believe that if children were to grow up with a positive outlook on marriage and not a negative then maybe the outlook on marriage and/or relationships wouldn't be what it is today.

I really don't care what he does. However, the idea of him having the affair in the first place was just silly, he shouldn't have done it, mainly because he was bound to get caught, if not by the press, then by god. Because god is like travelocity, you'll never roam alone...

WHAT?!

THAT'S HORRIBLE!

I thought everyone in this world is innocent!

You mean to tell me people actually DO bad things?!

I thought that was impossible!

I guess not anymore...at least not for Edwards... But i'm glad everyone else in this world is innocent though!

It's not like we haven't done anything significantly wrong in our lives! That's for sure! I'm so glad to be part of the "all good" world! :ggrin:

lol.....

and uh...i should not start threads when uh tanked...

Cheating on his cancerous wife is bad. That's fine. I agree. But it seems to be overshadowing the bigger, more atrocious crime here: the fact that he pays $250 for that haircut.

God may forgive that, but I won't.

yes i agree...lol....

my husband last night said it wasn't anyone's business but theirs...which of course is true...however when you push yourself into the lime light so to speak, you have to be super careful i guess...ah well...they had seemed so happy together..

these days, nothing surprises me. I kinda expected Edwards and Kerry to be gay lovers, who knew they were straight.

possibly the only thing that will totally slack jaw surprise me is if there is world peace and politicians become as honest and loyal as altar boys.

And that's why I don't listen to the news.

ah i try not to listen..but damn hubby turns it on as soon as he gets up..comes home for lunch...comes home from work...i hate the news personally..

Thats messed up

To cheat while your wife is in that situation, I personally am against cheating unless in a real understandable circumstance, I mean if a woman is married o her man and he treats her like garbage, is never there for her and abuses, she definitely is going to start to look for affection in other places.

After all, what are his examples of 'manhood'? JFK and Bill Clinton, the two main standard-bearers of the Democratic Party. Neither one could keep their flies shut.

And Thomas Jefferson; don't forget Thomas Jefferson.

I'm pretty sure powerful douchebags didn't only just start screwing around on their wives in the 1960s. And of course, as you suggest, modern Republican standard-bearers also have a dismal record of treating their spouses well.

The press has been sitting on this story for months, since the primaries started. If this had been someone from the other party, it would have broke on day 1. Nice to have the "mainstream" press in your back pocket.

The mainstream press will generally jump on a sex story regardless of who's involved. I'm pretty sure the press wasn't all over this particular story because of the paucity of evidence and--more importantly--because it was John Edwards and not someone who, y'know, matters. The only mainstream outlets who've been investigating it aggressively were the National Enquirer (because it was, y'know, sex) and Edwards's home state papers (because to them it's, y'know, relevant). Personally I'm sort of grateful that, for once, the media has spent the last few months talking about candidates' platforms rather than where an ex-candidate's penis was in 2006.

ah i'm sorry...but you will never get me to believe JFK fooled around ever....sorry i just won't believe that one...it's like telling me Abe Lincoln had an affair...i mean gesh people JFK had a fucking bad back....

Well Licoln I agree was wonderful

As to JFK, don't know that much about him, but my political leaning is left wing I'm a pinko commie bastard lol

there are some who believe JFK had an affair with Marilyn Monroe, mostly consiracy theorists. In theory it would explain why Marilyn Monroe was obviously murdered, then JFK. it does seem like some big conspiracy. and i have heard around that JFK was some sort of playboy.

I'm sorry but the let he who has not sinned cast the first stone defense really rubs me the wrong way here. In the original context of the story the woman stoned was going to be put to death. That's what stoning was piling rocks on someone until their spine snaps. Therefore Jesus stepped in and said what he said. Now everyone uses it as a fig leaf to explain away any impropriety.

John Edwards was running for President. I'm sorry if everybody else in America is so jaded that they don't care anymore, but it means something to me. To show such stupidity just before the campaign and not to mention screwing around on your wife who was battling cancer is despicable. The Silky Pony was nothing but a silver-tongued snake oil salesman. I never trusted the ambulance chaser. Thank god he didn't win or it would have been another term of Clintonian sex scandals.

Now I don't believe that every politician is totally clean. People with power need to make decisions to make things work and those decisions are often not always the nice ones. That does not mean however that such blatant acts idiocy should even remotely be seen as the norm.

You're surprised at John Edwards ?
He always was a swine...
He was a mal-practice lawyer for God sake..

In this day and age, marriage seems like an antiquated procedure that just comes down to a piece of paper and too much money spent on a dress of white, which the bride isn't fit to wear anyway.

Some scientists might say humans are inherently monogamous, but I don't know if that's true. Especially with men, I feel they have the desire to sleep with many people, especially based on physicality and attractiveness because those are animal instincts they have. To reproduce as much as they can, with the strongest females (strong usually meaning young, fit and attractive, among other things, in their minds).

That said, now that it's 2008, married people are finding other ways to deal with sexual issues they may have. More people are willing to have an open marriage where dating around is ok. More compromise is going on.

I see myself as a monogamous person despite having cheated on someone before. The relationship in which that infidelity happened was a meaningless one, I came to find out, as the guy was treating me like crap, but good in bed. I may get married some day, if I feel it's what I want, but I don't think I need something like that to feel closer to the person I'm with. I will most likely just spend my days with them happily ever after.

Not to mention, marriage is the leading cause of divorce these days, and those can get messy. I'd rather skip the whole thing in the first place.

Although, I do agree that cheating on your wife while she's on her death bed is one of the lowest things you could do as a human being.

I see your point there, and if the bastard treated you like shit its expected you will look somewhere else for affection and while sex is great its not the only thing so you would have left sooner or later.

As to the animal thing, I dunno, I thought we aren't that primitive and its alot to with psychology the whole cheating and sex thing.
If someone is of course single and they have sex with people thats allright, if they are married I think it depends how much two people love each other.

I personally blame the fact that marriage is given the whole property thing, first up I think that if you already have to worry who is going to get what when tehy divorce, you already create that possibility in your mind.
Secondly it also depends on how roles are working, some man who as the attitude that the woman is his wife will find today that very few woman want him (And rightly so!).

Point is only if it feels right for a person.

ahh i got married in white..i didn't pay alot for the dress though...we didn't have a big wedding..only david, myself, my sister and his brother..and uh i uh was justified in wearing white... sighs...yes folks i was a virgin when i married..and so was david..antiquated you bet...

the thing about marriage and how to make it work in today's world..hmm you take those vows to heart..it's funny, david will bring up a vow every once in a blue moon, which showed he was listening..now there are those who will say that when i met with the members of the tmf for tickling, that i cheated on him..by lying yes i suppose i did...however i told him about all that last summer...

see there is the key to a successful and long lasting marriage..or relationship of any sort...HONESTY .... i knew i would tell him eventually...and sure he was hurt and mad as hell...in fact he took my computer from me...but he knew me well enough to believe me when i assured him that no sex was involved at all...which was true..

ahh well i know Edwards is human and all...but still...i'm human..my husband sure is human...we have gone thru some extremely difficult times in which either one of us could have cheated to release stress..i don't judge..but i will say i'm disappointed..it was like i was so disappointed with Clinton...but it's frankly none of my business i suppose...

i will say this about both of them....damn if you are going to cheat...pick a looker for crying out loud...both of those females...barf...arf arf...

While marriage is antiquated, it is still sacred. Which is why, I will probably choose not to ever get married. While me and whoever I marry may believe the vows we take at that time, there is no telling what the future holds, how we will change, or behave. And there is no way I would stay with someone that made me unhappy.

It's infuriating to see the amount of people that take marriage lightly, marry too young, or mistake infatuation for love.

All these reasons are why I think people should really re-think marriage. It just ends up in messy paperwork.
