How long should the NFL SUSPEND James Harrison

Dirty S.O.B. is getting fined again for another hit. When is league gonna realize this guy need to go find a new job :microsmiley:

I suppose you think Pryor should be ejected from the league as well for taking golden boy Farve out of the game last week as well

This isn''t the nba. this is football. This is a collision sport. this isn't a physical sport, this is a violent sport.

dirty is when a player isn't looking or when a player is defenseless. cribbs was neither. when you become a runner you better tighten your chin strap. the hit on him was 100 percent legal. the fine was a knee jerk reaction to the result not the legality of the hit and THAT is wrong. you try to take away every advantage the defense has and now you wnat them to move out of the way so that the offense can gain yardage?

HELL NO!

there's a reason that the steelers won 3 out of 4 games with no qb and there's a reason that they won two superbowls in the brady and manning era. It's because they play football and not a video game on grass and harrison is the poster child.

I want 11 guys just like that on my football team.

Harrison wasn't fined for the hit on Cribbs, he was fined for the hit on Massequoi and he deserved double IMO. That helmet is supposed to be to protect, not used as a weapon. Harrison is little more than an animal who needs a cage; if he wants to retire because his "I wanna' hurt people" style doesn't work for the NFL, don't let the door hit him in the arse on the way out!

Everyone who feels that football is a violent sport and all involved should just suck it up probably doesn't have a child or a loved one of their own on the field.

Anyone who willingly put their kids into football should be the ones in cages. You are dealing with a sport that for DECADES used fake doctors and logic to say players don't get hurt and concussions arent bad just "suck it up" when everyone knew how bad they were.

But point being as people grow up, you accept the risks, injuries and concussions are going to happen. If you are gonna complain about how defenders lead with their heads, then where is the complaint about power backs like Adrian Peterson who lowers his head to blow through defenders?

Being the parent of a high school and college athlete, I never decided for her to play sports-she decided that at two years old when she took a 99 cent plastic ball and pretended to shoot at her imaginary hoop on the garage. In other words, if it's in you, then it's in you. Not every parent forces their children into sports; sometimes children drag their parents into it.

It was in her to play basketball when she got her first of several concussions at a high school playoff game when the girl from the other team intentionally launched her head into my daughter's face nearly breaking her nose. She got another one in PA after she got kicked in the head after she fell onto a concrete floor. I won't bore you with the details of the other three concussions, but I'm sure you see the point.

I know first hand that athletes intentionally hurt each other my dear and I consider anyone who operates in that manner no better than an animal that needs a cage.

I wonder if your opinion would be the same if Scott Fujita or Chris Gocong put a hit like that on Joe Flacco, Ben Rothelisberger or Carson Palmer? I'm betting you wouldn't be quite so vehement in your outrage, especially if it helped the Browns win the game.

Since you're wondering.......

My opinion would be EXACTLY the same! I don't waiver or flip flop just because it's my team. If he shoots with the helmet, fine his ass top dollar!

Anything else??

Anything else??

Yes. How can you be a fan of a sport that is known for violent hits and be shocked when you see said hits? It's not like tackles like that only started happening since Harrison started playing. And he's certainly not the first player to ever say he liked putting a hurt on other players. Hell, how many legendary hall of famer defensive players are most noted for big hits?

James Harrison is a dirty player. There are no ifs, ands or buts, about it. How many times have you seen him do something dirty? A LOT. If he retires, no one would miss him. He had ONE GOOD SEASON and people think this guy is great? Bye James Harrison!!

As for the illegal hits. I think people are misunderstanding what the league is trying to do. They aren't saying the big hits will be eliminated. They want the shots to the head to be eliminated. You can still crush someone with a vicious flying hit if you nail them in the chest and below. Stay away from the neck and head. I saw some big hits this past weekend where they nailed the receiver in the chest. No one from the league office said a thing. Stay away from headhunting and you can hit as hard as you like.

Doesn't matter how I can be a fan.....I AM a fan and that's all you need to know.

You don't have to play the sport like some steroid-laden animal in order to be good at what you do. I'm all for the good clean hit that you can hear without a microphone, but launching your helmet at someone in the manner your boy did is just plain wrong whether you admit it or not. And he's not the only one who did it, he's just the one who seems to enjoy doing it just a little too much for my liking.

And when some asshole intentionally knocks your kid in the ground, gives him/her a concussion and a deviated septum (which she still suffers with today and that was five years ago) maybe then you'll see why I find this kind of behavior appalling.

Yes, because I'm sure your heroes, Ray Ray and Neon Deion never did any such thing or used any such tactics. Nor has any other player, offense or defense, in the history of the league, ever used such tactics or performed such deeds. :hmm:

Oh, so now Harrison is on steroids? That's a new one.

Truth is, you're going to do what you always do: keep plugging away, using personal examples as your reasons for others needing to change the way things work, whether it be sports, politics or whatever. More power to you. But let me ask you this: where was all your righteous anger and outrage BEFORE helmet-to-helmet and concussions were the hotbutton du jour?

Slacker, normally you always have a well thought out opinion on a subject, not that I always agree with it

But in this case you are being a HOMER just because Harrison plays on the Steelers. Bottom line is the guy is gonna eventually hurt someone bad with another dirty or illegal hit . The league must do something drastic to stop him.

That was a general statement not necessarily directed at him. I thought you'd get it, but obviously you missed the general and honed in at what you wanted to. Somehow that doesn't surprise me.......

Why not use personal experience if you have it? Who better to have an opinion at all other than someone who's been through it? Your statement makes absolutely no sense at all, but you keep right on making it as personal as you're accusing me of doing okay?

You're tapdancing around the truth throwing in accusations that simply have nothing to do with the subject matter but I guess that's just how you roll when the dialogue doesn't go your way. This isn't the first time he's had problems with this and it won't be the last until someone truly gets hurt. Maybe you'll be satisfied then huh??

If that's the way you feel about it, there is this button in user CP called "ignore." I hear it works well when you don't want to see what someone has to say. Maybe you should try it because I'm not changing anything to accomodate you or anyone else around here.

Glad I'm not the only one who sees it......:sowrong:

But keep plugging away slacker.....in the words of Dr Phil, "how's it working for you?"

Hard as it may seem to believe, I'm not being a homer. I think it's appalling that after years of being told to "get out there and hit'em", they're now being fined for it. And not just Harrison. ALL the players that get hit with fines. From the day these guys started playing football, it's been getting drilled into their heads to get out there and leave it on the field and all that, whether it was by over-zealous parents, lunatic coaches or even peer pressure. Now, just like that, they're expected to stop doing it. And let's face it: it's hitting and hurting their opponent is what they're PAID to do. Whether they admit it or not.

thats a load of crap... if thats the case then why did Lawrence Taylor pop up waving to the redskins medical staff as soon as he snapped Thiessmans leg . By your logic he should have danced around giving hi-fives screaming ''I hurt somebody, I did my job; its what I get paid to do!!''

Yes , its a violent and physical game. And no Harrison isn`t the only dirty player out there . He is though the dirtiest player in the league and a cheap shot artist as well . The guy knows exactly what he is doing when he does it. Harrison looks for helmet to helmet contact whenever possible.

The league has overreacted to some brutal yet legal hits with fines that shouldn`t occur. The reason the NFL is trying to cutdown on these hits is all the recent medical info. reguarding just how debillitating multiple concussions are to an individual .

Lets face it, the players are so much bigger faster and stronger than they were in the past . This in itself leads to more violent and brutal hits and tackles.

And as far as the '' get out there and hit em'' mentality goes there are still rules that are instituted for players safety. Thats why guys can`t grab a facemask to bring someone down. Thats why an interior lineman cant block a player below the knees if he is already engaged with another blocker. Thats why theres no blocking in the back and thats why you cant hit a guy after he is well out of bounds. There are rules for safety, football isn`t a sport where anything goes to get the job done.

So then virtually every one of these players deserve suspensions

Also, how the hell can the NFL argue saying suspensions for some hits yet in the same argument they are trying to expand the season by 2 games

Also Primetime, wasn't the prior rules on helmet hits made due to Ray Lewis?(who you adorn in your signature)

Only the ones who use their helmet as a weapon should be suspended and don't even get me started on Ray Lewis! As I said before, I have no problem with a hard LEGAL hit-that's the nature of the game your playing. I have no problem with an accidental illegal hit although I believe that player should be fined for it. But the ones who CONSISTENTLY make dirty hits should be fined and suspended, plain and simple. And I don't care whose team the hit comes from either (even though someone attempted to accuse me otherwise).

Slacker....seriously dude, James Harrison is a cheap shot artist. Not a "great" player doing his job, he is a CHEAP SHOT artist. There have been countless plays where you see him attack a defenseless player. He made a few in the Super Bowl. Harrison is notorious for illegal hits. Face it, Harrison is a "one year wonder". He had the ONE great year, and what has he done since?

Keep in mind Harrison was not fined for his hit on Cribbs. Why not? What was the difference between the hit on Cribbs and the hit on Massoqui? Go do your homework and report back to me on the difference. Maybe then you will realize what he did to Massoqui was DIRTY.

As for your comment about Deion and Ray Lewis. Seriously? What the hell did Deion do that was an "illegal" hit? For real. Deion is criticized for his lack of tackling, and you are trying to place him in this discussion. :laughhard:

Goodie, I seriously want to laugh at your response. Tell me, is Ray Lewis considered a dirty player? He is one of the most feared tacklers, but you have never heard of him being a dirty player. And NO, there was no "Ray Lewis rule" made. Seriously dude, where did you get that?

Folks (Goodie and Slacker), read my original response in this thread. The NFL is trying to do away with shots to the head. They are not trying to take away big hits. Since you understand football (I don't know if Goodie does), can't you waylay some player without a shot to the head? That is what they are looking to stop. If you hit a person from the chest to the thighs, you can hit as hard as you want.

From those hits on the weekend where the NFL went into this recent discussion, the one hit that shouldn't have been fined was the hit by Dunta Robinson on Desean Jackson. Robinson went to the chest, but as Jackson was coming down from his leap, Robinson's hit went higher. The Harrison and the Mayweather hits are what the league is trying to crack down on.

As for that video Goodie put up, go back and review the footage son. How many of those hits were "head shots". Most of those hits would be deemed legal. They are hitting in the chest/sholder area. Some of the hits would be considered illegal, but come on dude, most of those hits would NOT be deemed illegal by the NFL.

Is this that difficult to understand?

Thank you....glad I'm not the only one calling it exactly what it was-a lowdown dirty hit! I personally think the fines should be high enough to make them think twice about repeat performances. What Harrison was fined could buy some car or other toy a rich man can easily buy. Make it hurt his pocket and a few weeks on the bench and him and others who do what he does will give it another thought. A person never completely recovers from head shots, in other words, the damage is permanent.

Can't speak for anyone else, but makes perfect sense to me. :ty:
